One of the highlights of my trip to Thailand was visiting the rescued elephants at @phuketelephantpark - Phuket Elephant Park is an ethical elephant sanctuary, where the herd of rescued elephants are allowed to relax and behave like elephants. They are not forced to do anything they don’t want to do. No performing. No riding. No cruelty. No bathing with visitors (which is best for the safety and comfort of human and elephant) **TIP: You don’t want to bathe in 🐘 poop/pee water** - I learned about the history of elephants in Thailand and the plight of captive elephants in the logging, circus, and trekking industries. Elephants are intelligent creatures with similar lifespans as humans. The ones I encountered were between ages 47 and 71 and had been engaged in hard work for most of their lives. - Srinuan (pictured with me) is blind in her right eye and was rescued from an elephant camp. It was a pleasure to feed her fruits, pet her trunk, and watch her expertly peel and eat sugar cane. - If you visit Phuket, I highly recommend you schedule a half day tour at the Phuket Elephant Park.
