Elephant Sushi & Karate Kid
This week I watched the Karate Kid and ate at Elephant Sushi. Let's break 'em down:
Karate Kid I watched Karate Kid over the course of two days, which means that it gets a Two Sleepy Bear Review!
First Sleepy Bear Review (:00min - :20min ): I fell asleep after twenty minutes, so let's review what we got. Daniel Son, a kid from NJ that sucks at karate, sort of likes a girl that could, or could not be, dating a blonde dude that's great a karate, has a lot of friends, and doesn't like kids from NJ. He asserts his dominance over Mr. Son and has fun beating him up. <Fin>
Second Sleepy Bear Review (:20min - credits): Turns out Daniel Son is the good guy. He's trying to win over the blonde dude's girl, but that's cool with the girl. Everything leads up to the final karate tournament. Daniel doesn't know the rules, but neither do the judges, so he ends up winning the tournament off of an ILLEGAL KICK TO THE FACE! Mr. Me-ogg-ee, who told Daniel that winning doesn't matter for the entire film, gives an all knowing smile at the end and we got credits. Absolutely zero falling action. Just credits, three sequels, a cartoon, and a reason for me to take karate lessons when I was 8.
I give the Karate Kid 10 stars out of a possible galaxy full of 'em.
Elephant Sushi Elephant Sushi in Russian Hill, SF is delicious. The atmosphere is intimate and rides the fine border between casual and fancy. The restaurant probably only seats 20 people. We had a 15minute wait, but the hostess (and co-owner) was accommodating and didn't mind that we jumped over to Za to grab a beer during the wait.
I had the sashimi omakase (which was $35) and some salmon nigiri. I'm not normally one to order sashimi, but I'm currently on a low-carb diet, so I was happy to see they had an omakase offering. It did not disappoint. All the fish was fresh and tasty. The highlight of the night was when the sushi chef received a delivery...A 25LB TUNA! He started carving that sucker up right behind the counter and gave my friend and me free nigiri. Woo!
Overall, I highly recommend Elephant for date night. As my friend pointed out when we were there, even if you're not there with a date, the clientele was predominately attractive girls eating with their friends. So that's where they've been hiding all this time...
