“What’s the old Dalish curse? May the Dread Wolf take you?”
“And so he did...”
Characters
Hilda Aeducan, the dwarven warrior who blames her younger brother for ruining her life, allows herself a short moment of happiness amidst the horrors of the Blight but cannot deal with the impact that her decisions have on others.
Florence Adaar, the Qunari/Vashoth warrior who inspires - hope in her followers, fear in her enemies.
Fionwyn Tabris, the elven warrior who believes that becoming a Grey Warden was the best thing that could have happened to her, because it gave her worth, future, purpose and love.
Mina Hawke, the warrior whose life has been full of tragedies big and small, and despite finding an improbable friend and a lover (not the same person), everything is a disappointment.
Eleri Lavellan, the elven daggers rogue who should have been a mage but wasn’t and thus feels like she has failed everyone; the innocent one who believes that everyone deserves a second chance (except for her).
Hal Amell, the sheltered mage whose future as a prominent scholar has been crushed by the people he trusted most; whose adoration of historical figures will bring about heartbreak; whose naïveté is only slowly dissolving in the filthy waters of reality.
Corten Adaar, the Qunari/Vashoth mage whose inability to use healing magic is only matched by his inability to keep a relationship for longer than two weeks.
Ásta Brosca, the dwarven archer, with very little progress so far
Sassa Cadash, the dwarven archer who only has a backstory so far, not even a face
I am blaming @the-emerald-halla entirely for this.
{Eleri Lavellan }
So I imagine that my girl Inquisitors don't have periods anymore due to the Anchors on their hands.
When Eleri Lavellan realises that she hadn't had her periods for quite some time, she gets a little anxious. She feels like she has noone to turn to for answers and support.
She's had some experience with caring for malnourished, disease-ridden, sickly women back in her Clan, whenever they encountered an escaped slave from Tevinter, there was a good chance the runaway would be basically half-dead. The Clan would nurse them back to relative health, then send them on their way. Female runaways would occasionally talk about not having periods due to bad health.
So, as Eleri learns more about the Anchor and how it's slowly killing her, she kind-of deduces that it may be the Anchor's doing that her periods are gone, but she's not sure, so, reluctantly, she goes to investigate at the source of all ancient Elven knowledge - her boyfriend Solas.
She's incredibly shy about it and circles around the topic, desperately trying to avoid even the implication that she's a woman of child-bearing age, speaking only in as general terms as she is able to come up with, so the only fact she learns is that the Mark is slowly poisoning her body. Eventually, she decides that her deduction was correct, abandons the topic and just hopes for the best.
In the AU where all my Inquisitors are alive, each has the Mark on their hand and they're all cooperating within the Inquisition, Eleri shyly approaches her fellow Inquisitor girlfriends, Florence Adaar and Sassa Cadash, on Skyhold's ramparts one fine day and asks them if they, too, noticed that their... you know... monthly days... didn't come since the explosion at the Conclave. Both Florence and Sassa confirm that, indeed, they hadn't bled since they got their Marks.
"I wonder if it's because of the Anchor," says Eleri pensively.
"Could be," agrees Sassa with the young elf's theory.
"Let's go ask the Healer!" exclaims Florence.
So they stomp down the stairs (Florence, being Qunari and a warrior, more forcefully than the two rogues) and into the infirmary, which is mercifully empty (except for an unconscious recruit who tried to challenge the Iron Bull at the morning training session). The Qunari and the dwarf corner poor Healer, while Eleri is awkwardly standing in the doorway, not really wanting to be a part of the interrogation but feeling that since she came up with the topic, it's her duty to see it through to the bitter end.
The Healer concedes that she has no idea what the Anchor does to the Inquisitors' bodies, but yes, it could be the reason why they hadn't had their periods since whenever. It's more of a magical thing, though, so maybe they could ask a mage?
Florence and Sassa look at each other, then both look to Eleri who's face is quickly turning ashen with horror.
"No no no no, you can't go ask Him!" Eleri whimpers.
With an almost wicked grin, the tall woman and the short one push past the young elf and hurry towards the main building. They pay no regard to Eleri's pleading even as they draw close to the door of the Rotunda.
As they rush by, Varric regards them with interest. Florence throws the door open and exclaims:
"Solas!"
She and Sassa enter the Rotunda, Eleri slams the door shut from the main hall, unable to face the man she admires under such embarrassing circumstances, but not before every single noble in the main hall hears Florence continue:
"We hadn't had our periods since forever, could it be because of the Anchor?!"
With desperation in her face, Eleri slides her back down the door and heavily drops to a crouch.
"You okay, kid?" Varric inquires softly.
"I'm... not sure," Eleri whispers, face crimson with embarrassment, eyes closed. She tries at the same time to cover her ears and to hear what Solas is saying behind the closed door.
After a minute, Solas' voice turns from surprised and tentative to his usual lecturing tone. The door Eleri is leaning on opens to release his usual, friendly "Farewell!", as well as Sassa, into the main hall, causing Eleri to fall back from her crouch on her buttocks onto the floor in the doorway.
Florence's strong hand lifts Eleri up by the arm, as the Qunari cheerily announces to the world: "Caused by the Anchor! You were right!"
And she drags Eleri into the main hall and down the stairs, across the upper courtyard and into the Herald's Rest for drinks, with Sassa and the ever-entertained, ever-inquisitive Varric in tow.
Fen’Harel, The Divine, and Fake Calpernia went for a lovely stroll through the Hinterlands.
May have taken the modding a step too far...
I was tagged by @noire-pandora to use this picrew, so here's my Eleri Lavellan:
... and the same before battling Corypheus. Didn't take the trip to the pond with her boyfriend very well, one could say.
Thanks for tagging me!
About the Character
I was tagged by the always awesome @aban-asaara! Thank you, friend! She filled it out for her Warden, Hawke and Inquisitor so I decided to do likewise. Although I thought I would do my Lavellan Inquisitor rather than my canon Trevelyan Inquisitor because Eleri doesn’t get enough love on this blog.
RUADHAN (ROO-awn) TABRIS
― a favourite picture/faceclaim for your muse: Sarah Gadon is my faceclaim for Ruadhán – only with flaming red hair. I think she’s very striking.
― two headcanons you have for your muse:
1) Despite her diminutive size, Ruadhán has a stomach of steel and can take her drink exceedingly well. Oghren is always challenging her to drinking competitions; he always loses.
2) Ruadhán has a beautiful singing voice and her repertoire of songs greatly increases once she’s left the Alienage. She sings Orlesian ballads with Leliana and Dwarven drinking songs with Oghren. Zevran teaches her snippets of Antivan lullabies he remembers from his childhood. Her Antivan accent is terrible but he enjoys her singing all the same.
― two things that your muse likes doing in their free time:
1) Ruadhán is a very sociable person. A childhood spent in the Denerim Alienage means she’s used to noisy, crowded places and being surrounded by people. During her down-time as Warden-Commander, she likes to spend time with her fellow wardens - sparring, drinking, talking and playing cards.
2) Ruadhán loves to cook - a skill she learned from her mother and perfected while working in a Denerim noble’s kitchens. Being on the road during the Blight didn’t really provide many opportunities for culinary experimentation but as soon as Vigil’s Keep is set up, Ruadhán can often be found cooking fantastical meals for her fellow wardens.
― seven people your muse loves/likes: Ruadhán can be cold and aloof with people she doesn’t know or like - but she’s profoundly protective and affectionate with those she does. She gets very close with the whole gang during the Blight, falling especially hard for Zevran. Nathaniel ends up her right-hand man at Vigil’s Keep but Anders is probably her closest friend and confidante.
― a phobia your muse has: Ruadhán is pretty fearless and there’s not much she’s afraid of. Apart from Broodmothers. Fuck Broodmothers.
HELENA HAWKE
― a favourite picture/faceclaim for your muse: my faceclaim for Helena is Crystal Reed from Teen Wolf. I’ve never even watched the show! But I came across some GIFs from the show on Tumblr and I was like “YES! That is Helena’s strong jawline.”
― two headcanons you have for your muse:
1) While Hawke is vocally disdainful about everything associated with Hightown and the noble life she’s thrust into after the Deep Roads, she does actually quite like it. She likes big, fancy parties. She likes getting dressed up in swishy dresses. She likes that her money and station provide some protection for herself (as a mage living outside the Gallows) and her friends.
2) Hawke makes fun of Varric a lot for his exaggerated retellings of her adventures - but she also loves it. She loves how epic she sounds in his stories when in reality she’s crippled with self-doubt. She wishes she could be more like the Hawke in Varric’s stories.
― two things that your muse likes doing in their free time:
1) More than any of my other OCs, Hawke is a people person and she gets bored after too many hours alone. The one exception is baths. Hawke can spend an absurd amount of time in the bath, enjoying her alone-time, basking in the peace and quiet. (Having said that - while she does love having alone-time in the bath - she prefers it when Fenris joins her :P)
2) As far as possible, she spends all her free time with friends – cards and drinking at the Hanged Man, picnics along the Wounded Coast, bundled in front of the fireplace at Fenris’s mansion with a glass of wine in her hand and his head in her lap
― seven people your muse loves/likes: Hawke is quick to think the best of people - and likes pretty much everyone. Obviously she loves her little family of misfits most of all, especially Varric, who really is her best friend. She falls for Fenris hard and fast, and though it takes a long time for them to figure things out, once they’re together, they are inseperable.
― a phobia your muse has: Hawke is rarely afraid – even when she probably should be.
ELERI LAVELLAN
― a favourite picture/faceclaim for your muse: I have always really struggled to find a faceclaim for Eleri. I’m not sure Jodie Comer is quite right but I’ve always imagined Eleri with a very round face and Jodie is close.
― two headcanons you have for your muse:
1) Eleri hates being Inquisitor - really, really hates it. She hates that it takes her away from her clan. She hates that the role forces her to fight and kill so many when she fundamentally considers herself a healer. She hates Skyhold (too cold, too grey, not enough trees).
2) Despite all of the above, Eleri does not disband the Inquisition at the end of Trespasser. As a Dalish elf, Eleri knows that she has no authority or power outside of the Inquisition - she’d rather keep the Inquisition and be in a position to stop Solas rather than disband the Inquisition and be essentially powerless.
― two things that your muse likes doing in their free time:
1) Eleri likes to dance - not the staid, heavily choreographed dances of the shem but the looser, freer styles of the elves. She is an exceptionally gifted dancer and a real sight to behold. Cullen is nowhere near up to her standards but he tries (bless).
2) Eleri gets really into gardening when she’s in Skyhold. With her clan, she’d always had to forage for the herbs and medicinal ingredients she’d needed - she likes being able to grow and tend to the plants herself. Skyhold’s gardens are the only place in the whole fort where she actually feels like herself.
― seven people your muse loves/likes: Like my Hawke, Eleri is a real people person. She’s very close to Varric, Bull and Dorian. She’s a big personality and she’s attracted to similarly big personalities. Sera probably considers her a bit “elf-y” at first but they end up good friends. She and Cullen kind of crash together due to circumstances and I’m not 100% convinced Cullen is end-game for her.
― a phobia your muse has: I’m not sure Eleri has phobias but she does have a healthy fear/ respect of the wild. When she was very small, she saw an animal carcass ripped apart by a wolf and she’s never forgotten just how fragile and squishy humans are in the face of teeth and claws.
Eleri Lavellan Mood Board
I’ve done a load of mood boards already for my various Dragon Age OCs and now here’s one for my Eleri Lavellan. My Trevelyan is my ‘canon’ Inquisitor but I do love my Lavellan and it makes me sad that it’s been a while since I’ve written anything for her.
Eleri means soothing teas, the soft lilt of a harp, and the musky smell of nature. Also her loyal dog, Melly.
