She sighed inwardly, bridge of her nose crinkling in annoyance. More with herself than his theatrical response. To ask such a blunt question, one that defied logic, to someone who barely knew her, let alone trusted her, wasn't exactly a brilliant plan.
Tossed together by a disturbing fate that began with a mass kidnapping, a tenuous alliance formed among the survivors of a crashed ship in the hopes that numbers might increase their chance of finding a cure. To reverse a disturbing fate gifted to them through some wriggling tadpole slipped into their eyes and now squirming around in their skulls, waiting to transform them into tentacled beasts with a taste for brains. Still, trust didn't necessarily come tied up in a neat bow with that unspoken agreement between the lot of them. Each of them built their walls around themselves and only allowed as much give in them as they thought strategically necessary. Herself included.
She certainly brought this upon herself. Then again, she never excelled in finesse and tact.
" Okay, okay. You've got me there. The dead that walk aren't typically as functional, pretty, or well put together as you are. Not in my experience, at least, " Nabooru relented, arms folded. " I would never claim myself to be sane, but I promise, there's an actual reason I asked such an insane sounding question. "
She turned her gaze to the rest of their merry band. If they paid them any mind, they didn't show it, but she was more interested in the spectral copies floating behind them. Mirror images of them for the most part with minor deviations. It confirmed again that her powers weren't completely diminished. Weakened, that she could tell; experimentation revealed she could not quite pull off her more advanced abilities in full. But the more passive ones seemed to work just fine.
That combined with curiosity brought her to Astarion.
" Thing is, I have the ability to see spirits. Attached or detached ones. And you...don't exactly have one, " the warrior explained, attention returning to Astarion as she dropped the volume of her voice a touch lower. She squinted at the air behind him, wondering if focusing closer to him might make a difference. The space remained as empty as before. " It got me curious to find out why. I've never seen a living being without one so...you can see where I'd get the idea... "
