TL,Dr: 17 elite schools allegedly engaged in a price fixing cartel over the past 20 years by sharing financial aid award information, resulting in low- and middle-income students essentially being charged more as a result.

Two kickers:

1) At the average settlement rate of $20 million per school (only half the schools have settled though) and the estimated 200,000 students harmed by this practice, the settlement equates to a pittance: $1,700 per student.

2) The Justice Department under Biden had to file a brief and step in ON THE STUDENTS’ SIDE to ensure the lawsuit could continue after a hiccup in the process. The Justice Department has also been instrumental in investigating such illegal practices over the past 4 decades.

That's why I tell my older son who's in university now that it's more like a mirror. If you're on fire it'll reflect that back to you. And if you're just passing through uni will be a ok Las Vegas weekend at best: in-out-done as there was no long term vision anyway. I'm less and less convinced that human organizations can light kids up. We gotta come lit up and some hard knocks often helps get that fire started.
