ella had been the one to pick up the home phone to get the news of what had happened. their parents weren’t home, and she had no way to contact them in that moment, so she had been the one to rush to the hospital. she wasn’t sure how she even made it, her eyes clouded and full of tears– she wasn’t even sure if she was breathing. the car was left badly parked, surely a fine would come later, but ella didn’t think about that as she rushed to ask for her sister, first assuring she was old enough to be there, then yelling to be taken right away.
“LILY!” she yelled the second she was able to see her, considering throwing herself at her before noticing the bandages, and realizing she actually didn’t know what had actually happened, but she could assume. these days nothing else happened in town. “lily, i got so scared– i thought– oh my god, i’m– i’m sorry. i should have given you a ride with me. i’m sorry– are you in pain?
