no, i think that's a really valid comparison to draw! i wonder if richelieu thought louis would ACTUALLY be happy/thank him for killing anne? like, the thomas becket thing was the knights' attempt to ingratiate themselves with henry, right?

but in richelieu's case, he doesn't really need any potential gratitude from louis, and he'd hardly have been able to waltz over to louis and take the credit afterwards anyway... it just seemed like a really really bad political move too, aside from the actual ethical and moral horror of it. like i'm sure anne's spanish family wouldn't have been too pleased with france if anne died in suspicious circumstances only to be quickly replaced with charlotte mellendorf

i like the comparison you draw a lot... i wonder if the writers had it in mind too, and if so, what they were trying to do with it

ahaha, well it was a bit of a sudden change (although i can kinda get where it came from, seeing as louis was drunk and being a brat at the start and he never ACTUALLY said he wanted someone to outright kill anne, so when he was confronted with the reality of the situation, i guess he suddenly realised just how awful what he'd wished was, and felt horrible about it)

yeah i hate it when shows do that, i don’t like being pushed to ship things haha. and ryan gage is so good at making me hate louis and feel kind of “aww bless” towards him in equal turns!!

yeah, i love louis so much (mostly because ryan gage is sO GOOD) and i was just willing him to realise how horrible and unfair he'd been, so i was really glad about the moment at the end of the ep, even if anne probably feels horribly guilty for sleeping with aramis now,,,

ughh the more i think about it the angrier i get, and i want this show to remain my happy place dammit :/ tbh anne/aramis can be kinda cute and i like anne (obvs porthos/aramis is otp status but y’know, the multishipper in me can deal haha)

and yeah, i agree, and i do ship anne/aramis, just not as much as i think the show wants me to... i loved the ep they first met, though, that was so so so cute

yeah it sucks. and i missed my bby constance this week!! UGH my thoughts exactly whilst watching, they need to address this soon, it’s making me angry :/ (also my mum ships anne/aramis lol)

yeah it'll be so good to see constance next week (if the show doesn't fuck it all up, that is)

and yeah, they have NO excuse, and it's starting to look intentional because SERIOUSLY how have they managed 9 eps without hiring a single woman of colour

ahaha oh dear :P i've seen ppl get so so excited over aramis/anne and i can't muster that sort of enthusiasm. like, they're both really really pretty and great characters, but together i don't have as much enthusiasm as i do with a lot of my musketeers ships

yep, pretty much - i was so disappointed that she was basically used as a vehicle to establish richelieu's evilness :/ poor adele, you deserved better
