Dragon Quest Heroes II

Not too long at all after Dragon Quest Heroes released, something magical happened. Dragon Quest games started getting localized again. The 3DS remakes of VII and VIII, after years of waiting finally came stateside. A new side series arrived with Dragon Quest Builders. And last, but definitely not least, a sequel to Dragon Quest Heroes. One that is most definitely a better experience in every way than the original.

Dragon Quest Heroes

Dragon Quest has always been seen as the last bastion for traditional turn-based RPGs.  Despite every evolution other series makes, such as Final Fantasy switching from the ATB system to eventually real time combat, Dragon Quest has stayed set in its old ways.  In a way, this is part of the series’ charm, a way to play the kinds of RPGs you played as a kid.  This leads the series’ spinoffs to go in a drastically different direction.  Enter Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woes and the Blight Below; an action game.  Or rather to be more specific, an action game by Omega Force, the developers behind the Dynasty Warriors/Musou series.  And depending on who you ask, it’s either a good thing or a bad thing that this is the first game in the series to be in HD from the start.

Wanted: Dead

Imagine. Mixing the world of action games and shooters. Gory, stylish, probably a bit janky and incredibly Japanese. Misplaced in time. Starring a protagonist who is incarcerated for an absurd amount of time, given a second chance. No, isn’t about Devil’s Third. But instead, Wanted: Dead, which despite what the developers at Soleil say, seems almost as a do-over. The team at Soleil does in fact share a substantial number of staff with the ill-fated Valhalla Game Studio.
