You just never know what or who you will find at an estate sale!!! An early morning with @victorkong82 waiting to get into Joan Benny’s house. Quite the crowd outside before it opened. She was the daughter of Jack Benny. Joan passed away recently from the same illness her father had died from. Her daughter Maria was there and we started talking and it turned out that we went to Westlake School for Girls at the same time only she was in a grade below me. She also played tennis at Hillcrest Country Club and had quite the crush on my brother. Her grandfather used to buy clothes from my father’s store, Tavelman’s in Beverly Hills and he and his wife Mary were friends with my parents. Anyway, I drove back home and retrieved my 1974 yearbook and brought it back for Maria to look through. We sat on the sofa in the library and went through it together and shared memories as she turned the pages. She is in the last photo on the far right, Maria Rudolph. She would have been a junior as I was a senior and graduating. Such a special unexpected morning!!! I couldn’t resist buying this first edition of Eloise, one of my favorite books growing up. It was gifted to her mother, Joan from the author, Kay Thompson and Maria verified it for me in writing on her mother’s notepad paper. It was a very good morning!!! Thank you @victorkong82 for telling me about this sale, meeting me there and taking such a great photo!!! I also thank you for finding the book!!! #estatesalefinds #beverlyhillsestatesale #jackbenny #eloisebooks #kaythompson (at Beverly Hills, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CV6Kkv2BhZD/?utm_medium=tumblr
