And yes, definitely in an obsessive, toxic way. And yes, unfortunately these things do exist IRL, and I do think the show did good portraying this for what it is.

Anyway, you've talked before about how, thematically speaking, Washington is kinda the true antagonist of SOA's narrative (and the main agent in Hamilton's more-or-less corruption arc). I know you can't predict how exactly the details will work out, but broadly, do you see Laurens' relationship with or perception of Washington changing as the story develops further? If so, how?

Yes- so. This has already started. Following ch9’s conversation about not trusting Washington with his reputation, then the fight at the end of ch13 and John’s conversations with Martha that reveal how the Washingtons value people based on their usefulness to their causes, John knows he isn’t going to have a familial or even really a mentoring relationship with General Washington. He does recognize him as the political powerhouse that he is, and he and Alex have every intention to reinforce that, assure it, and then use it for their own gain.

Btw I’ve fallen down an aides-de-camp rabbit hole, mostly based on Arthur Leftkowitz’s work. Is that a good source? Cuz I’ve used it to start constructing a VERY rough timeline of the aides’ hiring and leaving.

Sorry i’m late but yes! That’s basically the aide-de-camp research bible. There are things he gets wrong and things he’s missing and that’s to be expected tbh because of how old the book is but it’s the most complete published text on the aides-de-camp currently out there

Hi, I’m sending this ask on American Thanksgiving, so happy Thanksgiving if you’re celebrating! Quick question, in the narrative logic of TCW, does Anakin live at the Temple or with Padme? Because ROTS and TCW episodes like ‘(3-08) Evil Plans’ imply that he lives with Padme, but in TCW he also has a room in the Temple and seems to spend much of his downtime there. Or is this just a continuity error?

Officially, Anakin lives at the Jedi Temple because he’s a Jedi Knight.

Unofficially, Anakin considers Padmé’s apartment *their* home:

And spends all his free time there:

He’s only a the temple when he’s working or on a mission. the rest of his (free) time is spent with Padmé on the rare occasions he’s on Coruscant.

So, it’s not a continuity error. It’s Anakin hiding his secret life with Padmé from the Jedi. He lives with Padmé because he loves her AND he lives at the Temple because he can’t/won’t tell them he’s living with Padmé. That’s why Anakin has two rooms.
