Headcanon: Circus
After graduating high school in May of 2011, Else decided to turn her throwing knife interest into a potential specialty. In order to do so, she wanted to research all the different forms of the art. She studied in various countries in Central Africa as well as Egypt and even Texas in the United States, however, she wanted to perfect her own technique, so she decided to learn the entertainment form of the art: the circus act.
She’d already been studying Russian for over a year, so in August of 2011, she set off to join a troupe where she was known as Katia Alkaev under the stage name Катя Принцесса Лезвия (or Katia Printsessa Lezviya, Katia the Princess of Blades). She stayed with the troupe until May 2012 when she returned for duty to S.H.I.E.L.D.’s New York headquarters.
Each member of the carnival has a bear’s paw print tattooed on the back of his or her neck, and as a result, Else has a black bear print at the nape of her neck, the size of an American half dollar.
Headcanon: Hair
Every night before Else goes to bed, she braids her hair into two braids. This makes it so that in the morning her curls are less frizzy, and they’re a bit bigger and more appealing (to her own eyes). In addition, she usually adds in a de-frizz product in the morning before brushing all her curls out. Her hair is still big and poofy, just less than it would be naturally.
If she fails to do either of those things, she ends up with a legitimate afro…even when her hair is as long as it is now (about an inch past her shoulders when curly). The only times anyone would see Agent Zelle with her hair as such is when she’s sick, emotionally compromised, or doesn’t have access to her products.
Else hates straightening her hair because it takes so long, and she thinks her head looks little and flat with straight hair surrounding it. The only time she would ever put in the effort would be if it was required for a mission.

17 Preferred mode of dress and rituals surrounding dress
Else doesn't really put a whole lot of thought into what she wears. She tends to wear things that are quicker to put on when she's not required to wear her business casual for days around HQ. Aside from "dressing up" for work each day, Else works out in a sports bra and athletic shorts, she goes out in jeans and a tank top or t-shirt (with appropriate accessories depending on why she's going out in the first place), and she lounges around in anything she has on. Sometimes she falls asleep in whatever clothes she'd worn that day because she just doesn't care to take them off. The only time she'll change is for a mission, or if she's upset she'll put on her cross country sweatshirt from her favorite high school she attended her junior year.
What does she think about before falling asleep at night?
Else is one of those people that worries about everything she did/said the previous day. She'll fret over others' reactions to her words or actions even though there's really nothing to be done about them. She's a terribly light sleeper and doesn't sleep much anyway, but she has to force herself to clear her mind to even fall asleep in the first place.
How does she see herself 5 years from today?
Hopefully moved up in the SHIELD ranks, she'd like, but Else doesn't plan too far in advance lest she be killed in-action. She sees hope for any sort of future as a false comfort that she doesn't need.

7. Favorite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time.
Else is a full-supporter of wasting time if it means she gets to procrastinate her paperwork from a mission. Her favorite way to waste time is generally volunteering on a coffee run so she can feel like she’s being productive while she’s really milling around New York at the rate of a snail. Another thing she likes to pass the time with is reading (her favorite book is The Great Gatsby), but it’s far harder to pretend to be productive with your nose in a Fitzgerald novel.
26. Does she have any plans for the future? Any contingency plans if things don’t work out?
Else hasn’t planned so far in advance that she knows what she’ll be doing in 5-10 years. For her, it’s a reality that she could die in the field. She has no romantic ties at the moment (and she’s fairly certain they’re ridiculously bleak considering with whom she went on her last “date” with), so marriage or engagement is out of the question and with that the chance of children. Her plans basically consist of “stay alive, and if you can’t do that, get the job done as much as you can.” She’s not planning on a heroic death, but a useful one.
39. Would you say that she has a superiority complex? Inferiority complex? Neither?
I wouldn’t say Else has a superiority-complex at all. She’s headstrong, of course, and very opinionated, but she knows her place in SHIELD, especially (though sometimes she can be rebellious, much to her superiors’ chagrin). As for an inferiority complex, that is probably more likely. She hasn’t ever deemed herself worthy of close relationships (stemming from her abandonment at a young age), and she often describes herself as too thin, too gangly, too awkward, too childish, etc.
42. How far did she get in formal education? What are her views on formal education vs. self-education?
Else got through her fourth year of formal education in Germany, and when she was taken in by SHIELD later that year, she had to start over with the 4th grade in American public schools. She ended up graduating high school.in May of 2011. Because she was already being trained as a minor agent, Else saw no reason to go on to college (and she would have had to take out student loans because SHIELD wouldn't fund extra schooling).
As for her opinions on formal education versus self-education, Else believes some formal education is necessary, but some things can be learned through experiences.
I feel like if Else was ever threatening anyone, and she was holding a gun up to someone's head, and they were like, "You wouldn't," she would be like, "Don't test me; I shot my best friend" in like the most serious of voices (maybe in a German accent for effect) and it would be total BA but also it would be like a thing of guilt for her, too

Cheeks: Do you blush easily?
Not abnormally easily, no. I do blush a good bit, though, depending on the subject.
Hips: Do you like to dance?
I love to dance! I don’t get to do it often, though, given the nature of my job. SHIELD does not smile on agents throwing dance parties gratuitously…Not that I have personal experience with that, of course.
Skin: Do you tan easily?
I tan very, very easily. If I spend nearly any time in the sun my skin darkens. I always wear a lot of sunscreen, though, because skin cancer.
