Apologies if (a)you have already explained this elsewhere and (b) this takes valuable time from you. But, as someone who is coming slowly to the conclusion that she has ADHD (at the ripe old age of 52) - can mental and physical exhaustion be linked to it? Like, once every few months or so, my body scolds me in no uncertain terms to stay put in bed and not go into work; which could pass as a viral thingie except that there are no other signs except exhaustion?
According to the notes I have from my therapist fatigue can be a symptom of ADHD, especially in adults. It can either be from the regular long term sleep disturbances we experience as part of ADHD, bouts of hyperactivity (mental or physical) or just even the additional strain it takes for us to stay focused for prolonged periods of time. I found a couple of articles by googling, and this Healthline one matches up pretty well with all the things my therapist talks about with me: https://www.healthline.com/health/ADHD/adhd-fatigue#1
For me I’m never sure if it’s a result of my other chronic illnesses or not, but I know if I do something that drains my energy in terms of requiring a lot of focus and mental attention (say, a rush editing job for a client), I feel a bit like a wrung-out rag and I’ll feel very tired and a bit “off” for a few days until I recharge my batteries a bit.
I did read a thing last year that talked about how ADHD and chronic fatigue syndrome were linked in a study, let’s see if I can find it... Aha, yea, CHADD.org actually links to this on their website:

The conclusion was “basically, having ADHD is exhausting sometimes” which y’know both a mood and validating lol
