elsewhere & otherwise
how does thought move with action between, through, and across communities? how does it find its ways into the interstitial spaces and temporalities of our occupied lives? what possibilities for creative and resistant forms of life exist in the elsewhere and otherwise...here, where we investigate the manifold ways in which indigeneity and blackness become imbricated within specific discursive enclosures, entrapments, gates, corners, and shadows that both hide and hold, keep hidden, or render in/visible, the contours of their dis/appearance. in locating the decolonial potentiality of the poetic and the political in such constellated spaces of creative interrogation, we seek to unravel and render up for discussion the complex spaces we inhabit within shared presence. consequently, we move within, through, such entanglements, pursuing other forms—songs of freedom, moments of escape, the breath of present futures, the wildness of being, and of being together, in common, in laughter, in conversation, in strength, invocation, in embrace. what happens when our shared love for this dream of liberation is forged in struggle, while our communities whirling dervish-like, admit only the surface areas inscribed by their concentric circumference? what becomes possible when we abandon the ocular circularity of the circumscribed gaze and admit the repurposed embodied proposal, presupposed, by the living organism of thought, an inhabitation of body in mind? what creative spirit comes into view at the shared horizon of our decolonized becoming? or, how we might move together, flow-like, reverent, dreaming only in retrospect of the ways we were previously fore/stalled, trapped, enclosed, captivated, held captive. rapt. by presence. held in the embrace of the world. might we then seek motion of a different kind: at thought’s horizon, its sound, the universe, born in a wave, the echo, the rattle, the drum.
