Here we have our class content meme with none other than Rushdie himself. In his analysis of Orwell’s “Inside the Whale”, Rushdie states that it is important to use art and literature in political ways so that more people can understand it and therefore have change come up from that. The meme comes from Top Gear, a car show held by British people so it seemed fit.
Here is my social meme. It uses the image of meme man with his typical misspelling of words. During such a time of crisis we are in such need of the ventilators, yet we are so set on large companies getting their way that we would believe that they would sue someone during such a time, but that was not the case. We must fact check everything, and get more ventilators of course. (Edit: has final meme)
For my detournement meme, I took a couple of very known images of the United States during this time. It starts by flashing the image of the flag, which quickly gets its bars erased, behind it, the image of kids being locked in an ICE detention center with bare minimum supplies. Following that it shows the true culprit of this all, the “Make America Great Again” slogan, who believe its alright to keep them in these conditions in order to deport their parents because they are illegal.
This is a weak meme, because while it is really cute, that is all it has going for it.
This is a strong meme to me because shows the very different times that have happen within these past 3 months and how our relationships with others has changed.

As we see the ever changing culture of more and more people coming to accept memes in their daily lives, is there a point where they will become over-saturated and not hold as deep of a value? Will there ever be a time when there are just to many memes to even find somewhere to start analyzing them?

As memes continue to grow and change each and everyday, do you think that there is a point where they have gone too far? Whether that be a “dark joke” or using images that are typically seen as taboo for the base image of the meme?
