…what makes them happy.

- - - Gin has a few things that make him happy. Dried persimmons, of course as his favorite food. He enjoys teasing people and making jokes. Watching the confusion on people’s faces as they try to guess if he’s serious or sarcastic. Going on a walk by himself to enjoy the atmosphere of the world around him.  But most of all, his favorite thing is the smiles of those that he holds most dear.

The Primera’s eyes glanced over at Ulquiorra shaking his head, he shouldn’t have been surprised. Asking the Cuatro about his ‘opinions’ sometimes felt like talking to a wall, still his calmer demeanor made him preferable company.

“The disappearance of Tres is off, I just wanted to know if you thought anything about it...one day she’s here the next she’s gone. Lord Aizen already seems to have a replacement in mind...you don’t think anything about that?”

Shunsui pushed himself up to a sitting position, and smiled lazily at this unusual newcomer.

Even if what this guy said was true, and he hadn’t played any part in the slaughter at Shinji’s feet, it was clear that he held no reverence for these dead. Shinji’s expression curdled when he poked at one of the bodies like that. Shinji suspected that the corpse wouldn’t voice any complaints, but the whole thing still rubbed Shinji the wrong way.

Especially considering the nature of this guy’s energy. Deny it though Shinji might want to, he knew that the two of them shared some common ground. Unfortunate common ground, maybe, but common ground nonetheless. 

He met the guy’s eyes. His own were steady, even, and calm.

“I’m a Captain,” he replied. It was far from the whole truth, but no one could claim that the answer made Shinji a liar. “What, pray tell, are you?”
