lying-prophetâ:
Kisuke watched as the corners of Ginâs mouth twitched, almost instinctively, before it fell into a rather familiar grimace. Once he has seen quite often in the people he ârescuesâ. It was a look that displayed the otherâs inner conflictâ the âWhy am I here?â kind of conflict. The blonde sighed and dropped his cheery grin as wellâ it was not needed here. If he continued his own act it would make all of this seem hollow and fake. The snake was finally showing some sincerity so he should do the same.
âI can imagine so. Had I gotten back any later and I would have returned to a corpse on my steps. You are currently in my home,â the blonde sighed softly as he glanced around the room at all the machines, âThough I doubt it looks very welcoming. You have been here for about two weeks now. The healing process was slow, but you are in one whole piece now. Try not to move too much just yet.â
Kisuke stood and began to check Ginâs vitals while softly humming to himself out of habit. âWhat is the last thing you remember? Can you breathe properly? It doesnât feel like swallowing water when you take a breath in?â The questions were all analyticalâ though Gin should be fine there is always the possibility to human error.
After ensuring the other was stable, Kisuke sat back down with another sigh. It seemed like he was doing that more and more as of late. âOnce we get you more orientated with the world of the living we can discuss the next step of you rehabilitation. I feel I need to warn you thoughâ you are considered an enemy of the Soul Society. They do have a bounty on you currently. So while you stay with me, I will ask that you try and keep a low profile.â
Silver hues leveled on the snakeâs gaze. âI do not know how to help you past this. I think the rest of what you do will be up to you.â
Gin looked around the room with as little head movement as possible. The various machines beeped and buzzed as they did their best, Gin assumed, to keep him alive. Some machines looked scarier than others and some screens looked a bit more concerning than others. Nothing was red or sounding an alarm so he assumed that was at least a good sign in of itself. His eyes trailed across the IV tubes that were connected to him. He briefly wondered what was being pumped into him.
Suddenly there was prodding and questioning from his âdoctorâ. He did his best to respond accordingly, but his mind was hazy. He nodded a lot. Said a lot of âyesâ or ânoâ. Made an effort to answer the best he could.
- - - âI remember...â He started, but paused abruptly. Everything that happened, everything that he had done was coming back to him. âI remember crawlinâ my way to your shop. Then nothinâ.â He left it at that. Too much. Too soon.
Again, a lot of information and he was still catching up. A bounty? Thatâs interesting. For a moment Gin wondered how much he was worth. Back in Hueco Mundo he felt like a backstabber, a betrayer. Now, he felt like some sort of outlaw on the run. If he had the energy he wouldâve laughed. Instead, Gin made his best effort to sit up a bit more.Â
That is, he tried to sit up.
Up until now everything had felt numb and foggy. So as he tried to sit up by unconsciously shifting weight to his arms he fell back down. He flopped back down and the realization that there was no limb dawned on him. His right arm was missing right at the shoulder. The memory of Aizen tearing his arm off flooded his brain and the phantom pain of what was once there shook him to his core. His eyes widened in surprise but he lay motionless on the bed, no new sign of trying again. Gin grit his teeth before he spoke.Â
- - - âI got nothinâ left.â He paused to take a heavy breath. âI got nowhere ta go. Only reason Iâm alive is cause of ya. My life is in yer hands now. I owe ya and Iâd like ta pay my debt.â
Gin took another breath and turned his head towards Urahara, any sign of shock completely gone. He must have looked pitiful in this moment. Perhaps the shop owner would take pity on him and not turn him away.
