The fifth outfit of “Murder à la Mode” is a short kimono-style jacket and simple straight legged pants that serve as the uniform for the Melba Cruise Salon of Beauty that Phryne and Dot visit to gather information.
There are three fabrics used in alternating arrangements within the spa. Miss Fisher is wearing a printed silk with red, yellow, and green detailed circles (perhaps meant to be umbrellas or fans) on a wavering maroon and tan background, with a red silk fabric used in the lapels, sleeve hems, and her pants. The red fabric has a circular Asian pattern embossed in black and also more subtly in a glossy version of the same color.
We see the placements reversed for Dot’s kimono, with the colorful silk used as the accented lapel and the red embossed fabric as the main element. A dark grey fabric also embossed with the circular pattern makes up her pants and Mrs. Clayon’s accent lapels.
