Embroidering onto fabric to learn different stitches was challenging, I found that the chain stitch was most difficult. The french knot also was problematic as it got loose often.

After practicing the stitches onto the fabric I then took pages out of vogue magazines and began to embroider onto them. This was trickier than the fabric because the paper would rip if the holes were too close together. However I did find it very inspiring to embroider designs over faces and artwork and was pleased with my results. I was also considering the artist inspiration for the embroidery.
