Can we talk about how quick antis are to dump their friends?
There’s no civil conversations like “please don’t do this for this reason.” If you believe your friend is genuinely in the wrong, why don’t you try to get them to see your side? The fact that you already have a bond with each other will increase chances of changing their mind.
But no, its straight block/unfollow. I agree that more people should block and unfollow if they see someone who posts stuff you don’t like, but that’s not how you should approach it with a friend. If someone is unwilling to compromise, then that’s fair. At that point, you have closure.
Even worse: they make a callout post about you behind ur back and they “warn” other people to unfollow you. Suddenly you’ve lost half your friends and 3 quarters of your following because people don’t want to be cancelled for being associated with you. And you may or may not be harassed off the internet.
And the thing is, even if you don’t stop the friendship, i feel like there will always be this tension on the topic. It reminds me of how politics are a taboo subject in the us among friends and family because no one is willing to earnestly hear each other out and be civil.
The other problem is that the one who likes “pROblEmaTIc” content will always feel like they’re not accepted by the other. It stops the friendship from going any further because they think “well, if they don’t like this part of me, they also probably don’t like this other part of me either.” It can even reverse the bond because I’ve seen people take the aforementioned idea, and they distance themselves from the anti friend.
