holiday.gifs (BTS)
You may have seen by now the many Ace Shop gifs we made over the holidays with our friend and moviemaker Ryan John Bush. He is a wizard and luckily for us his preferences for 90s-era midwestern Christmas films align perfectly with ours. Here’s a refresher, for those of you who Ambiened your way through 2017.
We spent a long time rewatching this scene, and perusing local Portland area prop houses for plastic lobsters. When shooting day came, we found a baby and our mom’s old blazer, picked up a blender at the goodwill and did the dang thing. Then we figured out how phone trees work. Call now! (971-770-1190) and listen to our French friend whispering. Some BTS shots below:

It was probably sometime around the year 2000, or maybe 2001: I was going to a lot of shows, I was listening to a lot of music, I was really involved with my college radio station (WHPK in Chicago). There are a few bands from this time period in my life that made an apparently significant impression that I still think about today. They probably have an outsized influence on what I listen to…

"Of Being Many"
- Emily Bernstein uncomfortable to start at the right point, the charmed have everything already placed. They are the untidy, pleasers, messes; And there the ruthless are without question: a finish line. They evolve shouting in order to communicate; they sound inhuman, inhuman - death loses intimidation, loses fear; wine is their drug because wine is not a drug but a shout and a level of disagreement gives the bees buzz. They are the silences that expose one’s sleep. There is solidity in a whisper that smells arrogant; they will reach an impasse of a generation - last of all screams - and one could wetly save her distance if he would. Inspired by George Oppen's "Of Being Numerous"
Repetitions
I am a work in progress, and I'm constantly planting seeds in my bloodstream to grow parts of speech and weather patterns that will go green and purple over Oklahoma. But you are ready to harvest. There are love songs in your bones that need to be pulled from abstraction. There are hurricanes swirling in your arteries whose eye is pining to be outside. There are verbs in your hair that deserve to called to order. And because I’m repetitious, I will tell you many times that there are mysteries in your muscles that are primed to be read by rusty lovers. There is a tsunami brewing off of your blue vein wrists that is ready to be let go onto the Carolinas’ shores.
