Twitch Con San Diego 2025
Hopefully my last post that I make about Twitch Con. This is what I’ve heard and my plan of action, you are welcome to follow suit or not.
- One of the major failure of Twitchcon was popular streamer, Emiru was allegedly (I don’t want to get sued) sexually assaulted by someone who came to her meet and greet. Emiru was denied her own personal security guard and was forced to keep the meet and greet in order to do her show. I have also heard that Twitch refused to give her assaulters name over to the police, but that is common with businesses to avoid lawsuits.
- Accessibility was a giant failure this year, even from a creator perspective. Most prevalent through GoodTimesWithScar, who is a full time wheelchair user. Scar participated and won the Minecraft Championship (MCC) held in the Twitch Rivals Arena. Scar had participated in this arena last year and is the spokesperson for communications with his group (Hermitcraft). Twitch knows he is a wheelchair user as an elevator was provided to the stage of the panel he led earlier in the week.
However there was no accommodation given in the Twitch Rivals Arena. Scar and his team were required to do their walk out and receive two separate awards on the floor in front of the stage as there was not a way to get Scar onto the stage. One of the awards was given by Minecraft and preplanned with the knowledge that Scar would be in attendance.
The more minor failures to Scar that weekend was placing his specific setup for MCC next to giant speakers causing it to be difficult for his team to hear him since he had to speak up which was difficult due to his breathing issues. Scar also held a meet and greet and the signing table provided to him was laughably inadequate.
Scar is strapped to his wheelchair as he is not able to bend at the waist. That table is too low to be usable. He would have been better accommodated if given the same table as all the other meet and greets (pictured beside his table.)
I’m sure I’ve probably missed something, feel free to let me know in the tags and I’ll repost it.
- The easiest step for me personally, I won’t be attending any Twitch conventions until all issues are faced.
- I will not be renewing any Twitch subscription and instead be pivoting to Patreons for all content creators I wish to continue supporting.
- No longer viewing streams on Twitch. I worry about this hurting creators but I will be viewing vods or streams done through YouTube. I am not a major stream watcher personally so I don’t think loss of my viewership will do much (especially since Twitch messed with viewer count for those who choose to lurk)
- Sending emails to Twitch, Amazon, State Farm, Honda, HBO Max, ect. Everyone listed as a sponsor of Twitch Con. At the end of the day, sponsors want money. If people stop attending, they’ll pressure Twitch more than I ever could personally.
Thank you for reading!! Please send some emails if you have the time. Let’s promote accessibility and safety in the Twitch community.
