i firmly believe that THG in the hands of another author would have been seriously revolutionary
it could have handled racism and classism and all other forms of oppression in one fell swoop without even breaking a sweat
but suzanne collins made her start as a TV writer and it REALLY shows in the hunger games because she really does not want to take too many risks and potentially alienate the more privileged members of her audience

tbh i actually really love(d) the hunger games too and i still LOVE to watch the movies! the soundtrack to the first movie is probably the best soundtrack to ever grace my ears and i listen to it all the time
you bring up an excellent point and one i briefly addressed on twitter! the problem with attributing katniss' reaction to makeup as being her reaction to the excess of the Capitol in general is that:
she isn't really shown to hate the Capitol (or much of anything) and in fact wastes a lot of time blaming people who aren't directly at fault for her suffering; this includes the other tributes (some of whom may i remind you are as young as twelve) and people like Effie Trinket whose job it literally is to keep katniss alive as long as possible! effie in particular is shown (esp in the movies (thank you movies)) to suffer a lot when her tributes inevitably die but she can't show that emotion if she wants to keep her job and help tributes stay alive when they come from a district that all the other people who have jobs like hers don't give two shits about
katniss doesn't feel fake when she or people she likes wear makeup. in fact one of her biggest things is that she feels "natural" and "still katniss" even though she has exactly as much makeup on as all the rest of the tributes (who she regularly slut shames) (ALL OF WHOM ARE MINORS AND SOME OF WHOM ARE AS YOUNG AS TWELVE)
i would really love to be able to excuse katniss for this because i WANT to like her :( but when she looks at a girl from district 1 and sneers at how she looks sexy on purpose rather than being outraged at the Capitol for forcing a minor to play up her sex appeal on tv i just rage inside haha

Im just pretty quiet. I just lay around and normally have something (either music or youtube) on in the background and just go about my day. Im a pretty solitary person so I prefer it that way.
