All he’s seeing is red. He can’t understand how or why this is happening. Emmett keeps his emotions very carefully preserved, through hours of meditation and positive affirmations. He spends the first twenty minutes of his morning grounding himself to reality and letting all of his inward negativity wring out of him like a sponge. He’s spent years getting to this place.
But one look at Esther and he suddenly wants to punch something in the face. Preferably himself, for being so stupid. There’s absolutely no way that she could ever want anything to do with him, even though she should.
“Why don’t you ever see me, Esther?” He half-yells, suddenly, the words a shock coming out of his mouth. “What do I have to do?”
