There’s a palatable fear in the air, an anxiety that Dana puts out in huffs and sighs. She’s alone, just as she prefers most days. But the silence this time eats at her. She can hear every sound; every tick, every drop of water, every creak. For a moment, she thinks to play music to drown out the silence but she can’t summon the strength to break it. She doesn’t like the implications here, how heavy the future looms of this place. Feiyan’s gone, and for a brief moment---an eternity it seemed---their powers. Worst of all, they’re right. They can’t be much of an institution without a leader. Dana would never offer herself as lead, and would never accept anyone besides the woman seems known to fit that role so well.
“George.” Legs kicked up on her desk, she addresses her favorite cactus. “I think we’re really fucked here.” Unsurprisingly, George says nothing. And worse yet, she can hear the footfalls of some one entering her domain. “I wasn’t talking to my plants!” She bursts up with a start, half-expecting (or was it half-hoping?) to see Rose or Jonah.
“Emmy?” She blinks at the man, her surprise sits obviously on her tongue. “You’re--uh---” she swallows, pivoting her line of questioning. “A-are you hurt?” She’s happy to see him though, and after a moment her lips crack up into a warm smile. Anything to take her mind off her thoughts---or simply shift them. There’s been something else she’s thought extensively on, and now might just be the time to bring it up.
