As Simple as Tea ( Amnesia Au! )
Sunlight comes, an elixir after so many black hours. The air becomes sweeter; birds soften the dawn with their chorus; he breathes deeply as if permission has been bestowed. Already the greyness is gone, evaporated as fast as desert rain, and the heat of the day can already be felt. There was something about the sunlight that made him feel happy.
But then....there was something about the night that made him feel accepted. There were a lot of things he thought he liked, but it was like there was another person telling him he shouldn’t like it either.
Akira, which he had learned a little while ago, was his name. He was brought here to Tokyo because he had done something bad. Something really bad. People talked about him in school and said such horrible things. They would whisper things behind his back that he could hear if he listened closely.
Isn’t he the guy with the criminal record?
I bet he has a knife.
Oh my God, he’s looking at us! Quick, lets get out of here!
He wished he could tell them he wasn’t a bad person, that they got it all wrong. But truthfully, he has no idea what he had done. He forgot who he was, where he was born, and he had forgotten how to do basic things every human being his age knew how to do. It was like he was a small child in a teenage body. It was degrading.
But he did have two people that helped him. His twin brother and his friend named Yuusuke. He told him they had been friends for quite some time. They helped him during this time of need. They told him he hit his head which resulted in his memory loss. Akira was happy.
But lately, he was beginning to think something was off. Whenever they smiled at him, it looked pained or forced. He would ask about his past and they would give him short answers. Perhaps he was thinking too hard about this.
He had that same dream last night. Someone was calling out to him. This person was familiar. But just when he thinks he is about to see this person they vanish. He even wakes up crying.
Am I....forgetting someone?
“Did I make it better this time?” He handed a cup of warm tea to Yuusuke. Apparently he knew how to make tea pretty well before he had lost his memory. But now he couldn’t remember a thing about making tea....or food in general.
