OH god he was bad. 

He spent practically all of his Septims on health potions and was constantly using restorative magic on himself. He knew he was bad, but when he showed up to Cloud Ruler with bruises and scars, Raye’s reaction cemented how bad he actually was. 

When Raye began training Martin, she could see how weakly he swung a sword and how open he was to attacks. She was surprised that Martin had even been able to last so long with such terrible techniques. Raye teaches him everything she knows from her days of training to be a guard in Kvatch, as well as everything she learnt from the other Blades. 

Soon enough, Martin was good enough to go back out into Cyrodiil and continue the hunt for the amulet of kings.
