An Empty Campus

Marysville High School, like many other schools in the country, was temporarily closed down as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In these photos, I wanted to show and emphasize the loneliness and isolation this pandemic has brought on to students like me by photographing some of my closest friends alone around the abandoned, empty campus.

As the coronavirus rapidly spread around the world beginning in late 2019, many schools around the US shut down and switched to online learning around March. Quarantine has since limited our social interaction with others. Although we can still communicate online, it’s not the same as physically being with others. It was an interesting experience photographing these. I was ecstatic to see my friends but it was also sad to see the school deserted, worn, and dotted with memorabilia from March.

Now that the school year has ended and the next one is quickly approaching, students in schools like mine are left in uncertainty to the fate of the upcoming school year. In the meantime, many people around the world are eagerly waiting for the day this pandemic ends so we can be with our family and friends safely again.
