🍬 for FLOAT!
🍬 candy: share a sweet or fluffy scene from your wip!
(For context, they just played a guessing game where River learned the names of some of the crew, but Aspen’s cutting her off)
🌊 🌊 🌊
“I think that’s enough fun for the day. Go on, floater. What’s your name?”
She turns her head to look back over her shoulder at me. Part of me wonders if she is judging me, but most of me doesn’t care. I can’t let the opinion of one person who isn’t even signed on to the crew judge the way I run my ship. If she wants to hold something against me, she can do it from the Oasis once we get her there safely.
But without the time for an in-depth explanation, I just meet her gaze.
She must be satisfied with whatever she finds in that moment, because she turns back around to look out at the crowd. She sets her shoulders in a determined sort of posture, and ends the game.
“My name… is River.”
Cheers explode from my crew, and they surge forward towards the stairs. Blossom and Shadow and Dandy make it up onto the stairs. The ones who don’t make it up are jumping, and cheering, and stamping their feet, and slapping at the wood of the staircase to celebrate. They’re adorable, and I am so grateful that they’re here to give River a warm welcome.
“Brace yourself,” I tell her quietly.
I don’t know if she hears my warning before Blossom bends down and scoops her up to sit on his shoulder. Judging by the startled and shrieking sound she makes, I’m going to guess that she either didn’t hear me or hadn’t figured it out in time.
I watch Blossom parade her around, my crew forming a circle around them. River doesn’t seem to know what to do at first, but I eventually watch her smile grow. She starts reaching down to high five people, and claps along to the chant of her name once it starts up. Seeing them all happy makes me smile; I’m still enjoying the spectacle when Venus catches me eye from the outside of the crowd.
Even that quick look is enough to remind me she wants to know what’s going on. And I shouldn’t hide more than I have to from my crew.
Since I saw @empyrisan’s ruby oc Pigeon Blood Ruby, I wanted to make my own. Meet Rubellite!
Rubellite was once a assisting commander alongside a Hessonite during the gem war. Created and placed above all rubies, including the Pigeon Blood Ruby, Rubellite was in charge of leading the Nephrites and other gems opposing the Crystal Gems to glory. When Pink Diamond faked her shattering, Rubellite was devastated. Knowing this, she became corrupted and later trapped in the steel bars inside Jasper’s kindergarten. Steven, age 32, having come back from his journey of human self-discovery, found Rubellite while taking a look at the kindergartens after 16 years and brought her to little homeworld, healing her and the cracked gem he had found her with. Steven saw Rubellite’s leadership and fighting skills and made her an honorary Crystal Gem. Rubellite now lives in little homeworld.

An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
The Exiles is a joint project between myself and my partner, Empyrisan, featuring a cast of original characters in a distant part of the SU Universe. I will be posting some stand-alone stories from it now and then! The characters are all original ones set in another part of universe from the show. For the character line-up with lovely art by Empyrisan, please check it out the link!
Sapphire was created to be a special Gem, a gift from one Diamond to another. Her place in Gem society, her role, her fate - all these things were determined before she existed. Except no one could have predicted that a rogue Quartz would start a rebellion and shatter her Diamond. A mix of debilitating anxiety and depression, paired with unexpectedly weak ability in Foresight, has made her worthless to the society that made her. However, a place where she can serve some practical use has been found - out of sight and out of mind.
The Court has not forgotten the disgraceful display made by the Sapphire who ran away with her Ruby Guard and, thus, Blue Diamond does not look kindly upon a handful of Rubies who forgot their place. For their indiscreet courtship of a court Seer, the Diamond finds a solution that is both practical and poetically cruel: If they want a Sapphire to guard, then they are condemned to have one that no one wants in a place where no one wants to go. There they can all dwell on their inadequacies, their disgrace, and what they lost by wanting what wasn’t theirs to have until they turn to dust.
On a world at the very edge of the Diamond Authority’s conquered borders, in a sector where nothing of interest ever happens, placing security would be a waste of technology, resources, and useful Gems. But a Seer of even moderate abilities could be trusted to monitor the region and send an alert if anything problematic or opportunistic does occur. That’s what is said, even though a Gem wouldn’t need to be a Sapphire to know the odds of that happening were poor. It was an exile, regardless of what other words were used to describe it. A convenient place to put unwanted Gems where they can serve what little purpose they’re able to.

2024 / 4 / 19 Pencil sketch portrait of my dragonsona. An old piece from 2020. I've been looking through my sketchbooks, both old and current, to find some art to share. Between freelance work and recovering from excessive stress, I'm able to find the time to do some personal drawing. I'll be doing my best to post more art. A scanned version of this sketch in grayscale can be seen here.
