“Seeing you look so cute in your pajamas reminds me of why I fell in love with you.”
It was so strange, going from barely ever crossing paths with Flynn in Walt to practically living with him. It was a good kind of strange, though; she didn’t know what had made him change his mind about how public they were with their ‘friendship,’ but waking up cuddled next to him, giving him quick kisses on her way out the door to the barn, just being around him all the time? It was so nice, and it almost made Iris never want to go home. Still, she knew she’d have to face Bobbie eventually... but right now, living in this happy bubble where she hid from the person they’d accidentally hurt? Iris wasn’t ready for that bubble to pop yet.
Especially not when she came out of the bathroom in her tiny pink horse-patterned shorts with the matching short-sleeved button-up top and Flynn stared at her like that. Like he couldn’t believe that she was really here, that it was so easy for her to just fit into his life like this after so long of having no idea where to put the piece of the puzzle that was Iris into the grander scheme of the picture. She shuffled her sock-clad feet across the cold floor towards Flynn’s bed, folding her legs up underneath her as she sat down next to him, leaning her head onto his shoulder.
And Iris especially, especially didn’t want to leave when she realized that Flynn was still staring at her barely-covered legs and her comfortable-but-cute pajamas, and then at the contented look on her own face and blurted out that. Iris’s face felt hot at the admission, because even when he’d been the only person she liked as much as animals, when she’d cherished every letter that showed he hadn’t forgotten about their friendship and that she still held a tiny piece of her heart, no matter in what way? She’d never dared imagine a day when he was saying something like that to her instead of Bobbie. Or even if there hadn’t been a Bobbie, really; Iris hadn’t pictured this day, but now that it was here she felt like she was soaring over the highest jump, galloping so fast that there was a rush of wind in her hair and triumph in her heart. Or maybe this was better than that. She wasn’t sure yet, but as she snuggled even closer to him, she giggled lightly.
“I didn’t realize you’d done that,” she informed him, biting her bottom lip to fight back her smile. “I hope it’s okay if I don’t need pajamas to remind me why I started to fall in love with you, though. All I need for that is just you.”
