SOAP BOX TIME
Okay, this may piss some people off but I don't give a flying fuck. I'm so tired of seeing these posts of babies post op after a cochlear implant "hearing their parents voice for the first time."
Everyone is all "science is so beautiful!" I'm sorry that's horse shit. I sincerely hope that no one who reposts that did so knowing how extensive cochlear surgery is. It is brain surgery ... on a baby... because their parents are worried they wont fit in. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH DEAF BABIES. They are just as cute, just as happy, and have just as much potential as hearing babies.
People are so stupid that they would rather have brain surgery performed on their baby than learn sign language so that they can communicate properly. I personally think that it should be up to the person to have painful and life altering surgeries. Wait until they are old enough to choose for themselves and provide them with all the information.
Chances are though, if you learn sign language, and let them go to a Deaf school and learn with their peers they wont need or even want a cochlear implant.
Maybe it is unpopular but I am against brain surgery on babies in non life-threatening situations
