Ender Etho. I feel like this one used to be a lot more common than it is now for some reason? Anyway. Gives off tall-gangly vibes, preferred method of transport/getting into tight spaces is teleportation. The mask hides an enderman-like mouth, and he's half human so he's *okay* with water but still wears a lot of layers against it just because. Also his eyes shine in the dark like a cat's.
(The white hair is also an ender thing to me but I'm trying not to word-dump the entire details of every headcanon I have onto this blog b/c that's not what this blog is for 😅)
(i don't mean this as an insult btw!) cats' eyes reflect rather than glow, so im just imagining his headlights died or something /silly
im deeply normal so im just thinkin ab the fact scar killed him in the life series in water twice... salt on the wound

Summary: One mystery under Bdubs' house was bad enough. Now there's something even more dangerous in the cavernous space where the Seed of Whimsy had been.

There was a monster in Bdubs' basement.
Technically, there were quite a few; the room with the deep pit was very dark and tended to attract zombies and other such things. But those were ordinary creatures who couldn't make it up to the bridge above, nor any of the other rooms.
Bdubs had heard the noises. Too close to be a pit zombie, too complex for something like a spider. Moving, breaking things, thumping. He went down to investigate once, and had seen the claw marks on the walls, especially in one particular spot. He had been too unnerved by the scratches to notice anything unusual about the materials in the wall there, and left quickly. There were gouges in the wood of the secret piston entry, too: the marks of something trying to get out.
One day, Bdubs gathered up the nerve to go down to the basement again. He carried a lantern in his left hand, a sword in his right.
Nothing was out of place in the first room. No trace of anything on the stairs.
Bdubs held his lantern up to the room with the bridge. The light didn't carry as far as he would have liked - just far enough to catch a shadow, with black-clawed hands, standing on the bridge. The beast looked at him with eyes that reflected the lantern light back at him in magenta.
The eyes stared at Bdubs. Bdubs stared back.
Then he noticed that one eye was reflecting a redder shade of purple than the other.
Bdubs gasped. "Etho!"
The shining eyes squinted in a smile. Before Etho could say anything back, Bdubs had dropped the lantern and was running to tackle him into a hug. "Whoa-"
The force of Bdubs' enthusiasm knocked Etho backward - sending both of them off the narrow bridge. Etho's claws dug into Bdubs' back as he held on.
Etho hit the stone first, then let out a whoof as Bdubs landed on top of him. Bdubs tumbled off with a groan. "Sorry."
An arrow clattered off the stone next to them. Bdubs scrambled to his feet. Right! Monsters! Actual ones this time, skeletons and spiders and-
Zombie! It brought one arm back to swing at him, and in a flash, Etho had raked his claws across its chest instead. Bdubs chopped through the zombie's neck with his axe.
Etho reached for his mask and let out a long, ear-splitting screech, trying to put himself between Bdubs and every other thing in the pit. A few creatures backed off at the warning, but more closed in instead.
"Etho!" Bdubs yelled. "Stop tryna be a hero and just teleport us back up!!"
Etho blinked sheepishly. "...Right."
He grabbed Bdubs' hand in long fingers. Bdubs felt his world lurch, and then they were back on the bridge. Bdubs blinked hard and shook his head, trying to get his eyes and brain to catch up.
"Don't throw up on me, now," Etho said with a slight smile.
"That was ONE TIME." Bdubs led Etho back to where the lantern still lay. "I'm perfectly fine."
As they entered the light, Etho pulled his mask back up over his face. Bdubs had seen him without it before, but Etho knew that humans tended to find his jagged, enderman maw disturbing to look at on an otherwise human-passing face. "So. You found me!"
Bdubs spluttered at that. "I found- yes I found you! Why were you hiding in my basement?? No one else even knows you're back on Hermitcraft!"
Etho shrugged. "I wanted it to be a surprise."
"Well, you sure surprised me!" Bdubs huffed. "You- how dare you- you're just down here?? In the- in the dark? Anything could have happened-" Bdubs paused, finally noticing the affectionately sardonic look in Etho's eyes. Etho didn't say a word, but in that expression, Bdubs saw Etho saying aww, you really do care!
Bdubs sighed. "I'm glad you're back, Etho. You can stay here as long as you need to."
