if you're given song lyrics, do you consider metric position in the music for the lyrics, or just the lyrics by themself, or something else i haven't thought of?
i focus on the lyrics themselves, but when there are different possible ways of assigning emphasis, the music can help disambiguate. for example, this post is 2 lines from "look at me" by xxxtentacion and then meme lines that could be rapped with a similar meter. the original lines "i'm like bitch who is your mans" and "can't keep my dick in my pants" could be scanned a few ways but i feel confident scanning then as – ◡ ◡ / – ◡ ◡ / – because that's the rhythm in the actual song. (definitely for rap, the rhythm of the words is really important but depends a lot on musical choices, not just lexical stress.)
