Ma'am, there's a branch of the Skaven Underempire under your house.
This is the first parts of my kitbashed Vermintide Endless Spell. This endless spell is also probably the reason for why the Age of Sigmar 4th edition starter box was called Skaventide, since Vermintide is not only a game series, but also a different proper noun in Age of Sigmar itself. I'm going to be scratch building the other two Endless Spells later, those being the Warplightning Vortex and Bell of Doom. But for now...
"Once upon a time, long long ago, men and Dwarfs lived together beneath the roofs of one great city. Some said it was the oldest and greatest city in the world and had existed before the time of the Longbeards and manlings, built by older and wiser hands in the dawn of the world. The city lay both above and below the earth, in keeping with the nature of the populace that dwelt there. The Dwarfs ruled in their great halls of stone below the ground and wrestled the fruits of the rock free with their day-long toil while the manlings reaped the fields of swaying corn that surrounded the city with a patchwork blanket of gold. The sun smiled, men laughed, and everyone was happy."
Thus begins the tale of the Doom of Kavzar. The city of Kavzar in Tilea was once prosperous, and were favoured by the Goddess Myrmidia. However, the ruler of Kavzar wished to build a great tower that reached the heavens themselves. This greatly upset Myrmidia, who saw this as a waste of resources, and urged the king to give up this futile task. The lord of Kavzar, however, ignored the goddess' warnings, who, saddened and dejected, announced that she would leave, and would only return once the people of Kavzar had regained their senses. Work on the great tower continued, but eventually progress came to a halt, perplexing the human and dwarf workforce. It was then that a strange figure appeared in Kavzar. He told the people that he would be able to build the mighty tower in but a single night, but demanded that he be allowed to work alone, and that he be able to place a token to his own gods atop the great tower. The people of Kavzar, seeing no other real alternative, agreed.
Night fell, and the grey clad stranger locked himself in the tower. At the strike of midnight were the people allowed to return, and to their astonishment, the tower was complete, but atop it was a massive bell. When midnight came, the bell began tolling, each ring sounding out louder and louder, until the bell rang a thirteenth time. It was then that a flash was seen on the dark side of the moon Morrsleib, and the bell ceased ringing. Upon the break of dawn, the city was still dark, ominous clouds hanging over Kavzar, as an unnatural storm began, black rain falling over the town. And each night the bell tolled thirteen times at the stroke of midnight. The dwarfs were unphased, but the humans were conserned, now sending for aid from nearby Tilean and Estalian cities, but no messenger came back. Suddenly rocks began falling from the sky. These strange rocks were, however, no mere meteors, but something worse, a strange substance that corrupted everything near it. The children grew sick and twisted, crops died, and at this point, the dwarfs had grown wary, locking themselves in their dwellings. And as if things could not get worse, this was when the rats came.
Vermin began seething through the streets and alleys, basements became flooded with rats. Disease and famine spread through the town like a wildfire, and as time went on, the rats grew bolder, begining to consume the weak and unaware. Some tried to pray to the Dark Gods of Chaos, but even they did not hear their prayers. Finally the humans, desperate, battered the Dwarfs doors in, but found no living Dawi in sight: only skeletons, gnawed clean of their flesh. In the dwellings of the dwarfs, the humans were overrun and consumed by the seething swarms, meeting the same fate as their dwarfen neighbours.
Kavzar still stands in the Blighted Marshes, north of Tilea, bordering Estalia, though it now is known by a much more fitting name: Skavenblight. Capital of all Skavendom.
