An Interview without questions: Endote “From The Blood of Our Fathers And The Teeth of Our Mothers”
“ I grew up on grunge and jungle and my music output has been a battle between riffs and breaks since I first laid my hands on an instrument. I never felt entirely devoted to either the rock or dance movements, because I never felt that choice had to be made. I was either emulating Nirvana on the guitar, or trying to work out Peshay tracks on MUSIC on the Sony Playstation. In some ways it was inspiring, but in others disorientating. Whether I was wearing a Björk t-shirt whilst playing in a hardcore band, or supporting a death metal band by playing electronic music on a MIDI keyboard, my focus was and is always on winning people over with sound, not image.
My release through Vanity Pill Tapes is a collection of work that I’ve accumulated over the past 8 months and that Reece kindly offered to release. It encapsulates the experimentations I was having in finding my sound as it is today, so there is everything from techno and jungle, to power electronics and cinematic sounds. The title “From The Teeth of Our Mothers and The Blood of Our Fathers”, is a play on words based around the Japanese language and I quite liked the imagery of us all, be it musically, or otherwise, being a product of our past and our heritage. We are free to expand on what we are accustomed to, but we will always have those undeniable roots that make us who we are. ‘ - Scott/Endote
