I can’t wait to see Mikey’s Oscar dress either! And as for Silver Skates, I’ll watch it as soon as I can. I’m so glad you like the AU ideas <3 About the affection prompt, I was scrolling through TikTok and saw a video of Mikey talking about Ani’s hair and how the idea of adding hair tinsel came about, and how it fit her character so well. I started imagining Igor helping Ani change the colors or even trying to help her with different hairstyles. I don’t know, it just felt really affectionate to me. What do you think?

Thank you for the prompt! I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, although your idea is super cute. I'm totally into the headcanon that Igor loves Ani's hair and he runs his fingers through it every chance he gets. But I think I also see him as a little hesitant to get involved in her whole beauty/makeup/haircare routine, just because it's something he knows so little about, whereas she has years of experience learning how to do the perfect cat eye and knowing the most on-trend nail art to get. He's mostly in awe of everything she does (and clearly appreciates it), but it's harder for me to see him being entirely comfortable helping her with different hairstyles. (And honestly, I suspect she'd rather get help from a beautician or a stylist who knows what they're doing. She knows that he has certain abilities — like assembling an IKEA coffee table for her living room — but beauty skills aren't necessarily one of them.)

But I think there are lots of cool ways an “affection” prompt could go. I imagine Ani as being very physically affectionate with people she trusts, and even though Igor's not naturally that way, he grows much more used to it around her and starts to initiate affectionate touches. (I think of physical touch as being one of their main ways of communicating affection and support, as language can present its own difficulties and possibilities for misinterpretation, especially when their native languages are different.) But, yes, lots to think about with that particular prompt! 😁

Hello, how are you? Wow, I couldn’t get online all week because of how much work I had to do— I didn’t even have time to interact here on Tumblr.

But seriously, talking about the Oscars, I still can’t believe they won in every category they were nominated for—it’s truly surprising. I’m especially happy for Mikey.

I’ve seen a lot of debates about the film on Twitter... but I don’t have the time or energy to get into any discussions about whether Anora deserved to win Best Picture or whether Sean Baker is problematic (which honestly wouldn’t surprise me if he were).

Anyway, are you following any of this? What do you think?

Same — this last week was wild in terms of real world work obligations, and I didn't even get a chance to respond to the asks I got until yesterday.

But, yes, I'm still riding the wave of Oscar euphoria — it was just such an awesome surprise that the Academy loved Anora as much as all of us do! I'm not on Twitter (X, whatever), so I've not been privy to any of the discussions there. (And because of everything going on with my work, I don't even know if there have been any big Tumblr debates or blow-ups over the movie and whether or not it deserved to win Best Picture or Director. Mostly I just stick to my lane and offer my thoughts without trying to get drawn into too much controversy!)

I think a lot of people are getting obsessed with Ani and Igor, especially after the Oscar win. My notes have gone way up in the last week, which is kind of fun, although I feel bad for anyone who was looking for new content from me since my Oscars post-a-palooza. I'm definitely still obsessed, though... I must have watched the movie in bits and pieces at least seven or eight times now! 😅

I had just sent the message, and right after that, Mikey lost..., but she looked absolutely stunning yesterday. Fingers crossed for her and the team to win at the Oscars next sunday!

Now, about the AU prompt... I think it’s amazing how you can expand the story like that. I loved the idea of Ani falling for the security guard, and I also thought about a scenario where Ani is a rising young star and Igor is her personal bodyguard. Haha, I’d totally love that. I really enjoy thinking about these alternate universes. But I wish I had your creativity. I love reading the ideas you share here! 🥰🥰

Realistically, I think the acting Oscars are going to be a bit of a long shot, but you never know. And, honestly, just getting nominated is such a cool thing. It's also really fun seeing what they wear: Mikey always looks stunning (that gold scales dress from the Golden Globes was to die for) and Yura goes for the classic tuxedo, while Mark seems to do something a little quirky and cool.

And, yes, I like the bodyguard AU as well — sounds like lots of forced proximity! 😁 One AU idea I've been kicking around is a historical one, set in pre-revolutionary Russia. It's basically the same story, except with Ivan as a wealthy aristocrat's son and Ani as the working class dance hall girl he meets while visiting St. Petersburg and secretly marries. (Some local family retainers are enlisted to find him and bring him home. Ivan Nikolaevich, fearing his family's anger, abandons his new bride in their palatial love nest. Late-night carriage rides across the city ensue. A quiet young servant, sent to aid in the search, falls in love.)
