( Emily starter for @endurraesa )
This was as close as Emily would come to living near anyone. She lived very far out and away from New Asgard. It was a courtesy that had been given, due to the past she had with the other Asgardians now living on Earth. But she didn’t leave a lot. She stayed at home, read books, and wished that she had pushed herself to say something when she had the chance.
There were so many things that Emily wanted to say. That she wanted to ask.
But now? She would never have the chance to. Everyone else seemed to have gotten back the people they missed. The people who had died in the snap. They were back. But the people she loved..well. Her sister was off in space somewhere. Her adoptive parents were both gone. And the person who she’d actually fallen in love with, had been..
Emily didn’t want to think about that. It haunted her nightmares still, and in a way, she nearly wished that she’d not gone back to Asgard that last time. If she hadn’t, then she never would have had to see it.
The one thing that haunted her nightmares the most.
Today, Emily had decided to go on a walk. She needed it, she thought. Maybe it would help?
The air was cool, as most mid-spring days were. It felt nice, but not exactly..helpful. Something still felt horribly off, and she couldn’t tell what. It felt like it was more than what usually bothered her, but Emily couldn’t tell what exactly it was.
Continuing on her way down the path from her little house, Emily sighed and fidgeted with the bow on the front of her dress. Birds were flying overhead, singing and going from tree to tree. At least they were happy.
Emily was still thinking about that all, when she thought that she saw something. Something that she didn’t quite catch, not at first. A couple steps forward and past some trees, Emily looked again. She couldn’t believe her eyes.
Her chest tightened, and breath caught in her throat. What she was seeing couldn’t be real, could it?
No, it couldn’t. Emily decided this at first, thinking to step back and send herself home. To run away, to hide, and to try to find a way to breathe right again.
But her feet wouldn’t move. Almost as if rooted in place, Emily stared forward. Looking at a sight that she never thought she’d see again - and nearly couldn’t see now, because her eyes were fogging over.
Emily’s voice pinched, a long time of pent up emotions starting to surface on her face. If this wasn’t real, she was sure that she was going to give up on herself. But maybe..maybe it was?
“You’re alive..?” With this question, her voice only cracked further. She held a look similar to that of a doe caught in the headlights of a car that it didn’t hear or see coming until it was too late.
