Overpowered Alone (っ- ‸ - ς) | "It takes a village"

There's no easy way to say this, but you're going to have to talk to someone.

You're going to have to share.

You're going to have to be even more uncomfortable than you already are just to get through it all.

While this can definitely apply to many things in life, I'm referring to writing right now. Let's do crush our WIPs together

Peruse the communities tab, find a writing community to be a part of, and join! Don't just lurk, put yourself out there. Have fun! Make friends and enemies, whatever fuels your writing fire.

Yeah, I heard you when you said, "I'll write tomorrow."

Guess what?

It's tomorrow.

Engagement Activity:

Create as many alarms (NOT CALENDAR APPOINTMENTS) as you feel like you need to get some writing done today. And, be serious when setting these alarms. The objective isn't to annoy yourself, it's to build a transition schedule to creating your consistent writing habit.

One alarm is preferred, but, like who am I kidding?

Overcome by your Inner Critic ( ¬⤙¬ ) | "It's just trash"

Speaking for myself here, the noise in my head is very loud. I'm not going to sort out all the tangled threads bunched up in there now, but there's a pretty nasty tangle that comes up when I'm writing.

I've talked about it in this post about self- sabotage when it comes to writing and procrastination, but even after writing it, I didn't feel all that much better.

Knowing failure is part of my process is only the first step. Now, I want to move onto the next step.

Engagement Activity:

Grab a see-through container and label it as "Trash". Then grab some sticky notes or scraps of paper. Take 1-2 minutes before writing to jot down as many harsh self- critiques that come up. When the time is up, throw it away in your trash bin.

Now, you've got a visual representation that those harsh thoughts do not serve you and will not stop you from writing, right? Because, at the end of the day, it's just trash.

We're gonna tear a page out of the wonderful Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott for today's exercise. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend it.

I've done quite a few posts on how fear can cause writer's block. Done, the flow chart and everything. Now, let's do something about it.

Engagement Activity:

Create a one-inch frame. Decorate it however you like. Then put it somewhere you can see it when you come to write. Deviating a little from Lamott's original exercise, I'd like you to write one very important message in the middle.

Ready?

"Failure is part of my process."

I'm not gonna get all church-y about this, but failure is a natural part of process. So, own it.

Listen, writing and reading a bunch of posts around what could be blocking your from writing and what to do during those writer's blocks, that's all pretty easy.

I'm sure we all can agree that the hardest part about writing is the doing of writing. (Don't focus on the syntax, just let me cook.)

So, the posts attached down below, are about doing things. Not necessarily writing, but more about getting practice to getting things out into the world. These exercises are relatively low risk, but they do require...proof.

For each post will have a five minute "engagement activity" that will usually end in a tiny photo op. While I understand the unfortunate double meaning of engagement activity, I'm not too focused on the social media meaning behind it. Just people being people, helping people to write.

We had our Q3 Team Activity yesterday at LazerXtreme. ‘Twas super fun since most of us are really competitive.

4 Ways To Keep Your Students Engaged In Class

A teacher's underlying objective is to keep students engaged during the class. This can be challenging as the students can't stay focused without distraction. Therefore, it becomes the core responsibility of the teacher to focus on the students by fixing an objective. This approach would pave the way for attaining the fixed objective in a time-bound and organized manner. Here are some of the most interesting ways to keep the students engaged in the class.

1.  Warm Up - Students must explore the huge ocean of syllabi featuring different subjects from kindergarten to senior high school. In the due process of progress, all a student will want apart from gaining knowledge is to acquire practical skills. Be it the first day of school or college or the first session in the morning, it is always better to start the day with a warm-up activity. The activity may be academic or based on current affairs or anything that might have happened the day, and this will bring the student's attention to the teacher and the topics being discussed. The warm-up sessions can also include general interaction with the students and discussion of creative and collaborative ideas. Under such circumstances, teachers can ask the students to work on the subject and discuss certain topics that are relevant in the current context. With the teacher's involvement, the student will learn to think creatively and critically about the topic. Warming up can also include compliments and receiving feedback, which will promote group ideas and appreciation of teamwork rather than criticizing the work of others.

2.  Technology - Smart classrooms and other technologies have created an antagonistic teacher environment. The technology can come to the aid of students, where they can use their mobiles, tablets, and laptops to clarify doubts. Technology usage in education, commonly known as Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL), can interestingly present the subject matter and broaden the scope of the subject. The usage of technology shall not just be confined to the classrooms in schools or colleges; rather, the same shall be brought to students' homes' where they can read at ease and educate themself. The resources available through technology can be abundant, and with the one-click, the students shall have an answer to any question they might have.

3.  Testing the Knowledge - Tests need not be stressful, tests need not always involve a pen or paper, and tests need not always be for internal grades. The teachers can quiz the students immediately or on the next day of the class to check their understanding of the subject. Quizzing not only will test the knowledge and understanding of the student rather, but it also becomes easy to grab the students' attention and check on their attentiveness. Moreover, such quizzes shall pave the way for the students to self-assess their understanding; in such circumstances, the teacher should not judge or grade any students. This process shall be more self-sufficient, and the students can learn and grow in their self-paced environment. Unlike regular classes, the quizzing session will lead to a healthy discussion and understanding of the complex topics at ease with less frustration and tension.

4.  Debating - A classroom driven by healthy discussion is much better than a room with gossip. Thus, the classroom must be made available to discuss the subject topics or any strong opinion that can become the day's topic. Debating is a very powerful and passionate way of bringing life to the class by engaging students to participate in discussions. Classroom debate will not just clear the roof of bringing the class into an interaction, but it also will encourage the students to overcome the fear of public speaking. Working in groups will also mold the student to stand up in front of a larger group and express one's thoughts without fear.

To encourage interest in the subject, the teacher must give the students access to a fun and interactive environment where both the students and teacher shall not lose interest in the subject. This can include the usage of the latest technological tools to present the content engagingly to keep the students attentive during the entire class duration.
