Career Fairs are stressful, but I GOT AN INTERVIEW FOR TOMORROW!! And potential interviews with other companies who aren't doing next day :)

ok tiny feminist rant while i'm procrastinating on calculus hw

so, have you ever noticed some of these subtle differences that seem to just be so ingrained in our society they aren't even thought of much anymore?

like today there was a career/co-op/internship fair on campus for engineering students. i was trying to find something to wear last night and it's so so complicated. like guys just show up in a suit, but there is so much that has to go into consideration for a girl getting ready. like is this shirt dressy enough? should i just wear a skirt? but it's cold... and then it's snowing this morning so i had to make the decision to wear heels or try to hide boots underneath my dress pants so i'm not cold and don't fall on the fucking ice (my feet were warm but i warn you that's not comfortable) but guys just have like this generic dress shoe style and idk this whole thing with women's clothes not being functional pisses me off

plus there's a whole different etiquette for dealing with potential employers. like guys just walk up introduce themselves say exactly what they want and talk about all of their neat attributes. cool on you guys but girls can't really do this??? bc we can't be /too/ assertive, but if we're too reserved we'll never get a fucking job. and if we just go up talking about ourselves then we're self-absorbed, desperate, reaching

also guys seemed to just be taken more seriously. i talked to someone and was pretty much blown off, but then later as i was waiting to talk to another company near them, that same employer that blew me off was talking to some guy about all these cool opportunities they offer /which fall under my major's area and they told me earlier they didn't have a place for people in my major/ i mean if it i don't get a job because a guy is more qualified than me, ok, that's understandable. but if i don't get a job solely bc i'm a girl, even though i'm qualified then that's bullshit. at least offer me the same opportunities

i think that's the end of my rant. just some stuff got me thinking

there were also some pretty cool people there too. i talked to many companies, and a few told me to come back in the fall when i'm a sophomore. there was a recent grad who told me some organizations and research funds to check out even tho she couldn't offer me anything rn.  and no panic attacks for the entire afternoon yay progress
