To say Jemma's day had been exhausting would be an understatement. She had woken up earlier than usual to take an extra shift at the soup kitchen, dedicated the next few hours begging for signatures on a petition for a new homeless shelter, read a children's book at the library instead of eating lunch, and now was cramming in a few rushed minutes of laundry at the local laundromat before she had to return to the soup kitchen for the dinner shift. To her great dismay, she had forgotten to grab the additional quarters she needed for her laundry in her hurry, and it seemed as though she still had two loads or so remaining that she could not afford. However, she had an even busier schedule the next day, so with an edge of desperation, she turned to the familiar stranger beside her and said, "It's, uh... it's Leo, right?" Jemma smiled nervously at him, resisting the urge to tuck a loose piece of hair behind her ear. "You don't, by any chance at all, have any spare quarters, do you?"

Grant Ward had never been a lucky man -- never lucky as a child, not as a teenager, and certainly not as an adult. But all of that, everything he saw in his nightmares...that was past, and he was reminded of it every single time he woke up out of fear. John Garrett was gone. HYDRA, to their knowledge, was gone, and his brother, Christian Ward, was finally behind bars like he deserved. In his own opinion, he didn't even deserve to breathe. But despite what he felt, it wasn't his call to make.
They didn't trust him yet, not completely. He'd seen Triplett's face, he'd seen Simmons' expression -- clearly, she wanted to follow through on her threat. Skye and Coulson, they were giving him a chance, no matter how much May wanted to drive a spike through his throat, and that was what mattered. He was wearing a tracking bracelet, someone would be watching him around the clock. He was able to wander freely, as long as he didn't touch any weapons.
Ward got the sense that that particular rule had to do as much with his own safety as it did the well-being of others.
Those rules...they had been in place for a year. They called it a redemption, a second chance. Except it was almost like he was still a prisoner, in all ways except one. His relationship with Skye progressed further every day, and despite his restrictions, he was happier than he could ever remember being.
It was one night when he was wandering back from the kitchen, a cup of water in hand, that he noticed a light on in the lab, a familiar face the only one around.
"Either you passed out working, or...you...can't sleep, either."

[ OKAY. THEN WE CAN DO THE THING! I'll write a thing. ]

i'm on board for the thing
[ Ooooh yes, let's do the thing! Which do you prefer, Ward never having been Hydra or post-redemption? ]
Cayendo // Lucky & Fitz
Lucky was in the living room of her parents house. When her grandmother went to the door to see who it was. She had long since informed her family of her pregnancy and though they were still a bit uncomfortable with the idea they had accepted it. In fact Lucky had told almost everyone except for the one person who probably should have heard it first.
"Fitz...? What're you doing here?"
"It's all your fault."
"You have every right to blame me, Fitz."
