You know, I really can't say that the timeline has been a problem for me. As a matter of fact, there's nothing Facebook could do to me that could elicit more than a "hmmm" from my lips. Facebook is not a necessary part of my life. Sure, I use it. It has replaced the water cooler as a social activity. Frankly, I find it peculiar that so many of my "Facebook" friends are considering nothing short of petitioning their congress people to make Facebook change the timeline. I suspect that the timeline is so controversial because so many people use Facebook as their "social proxy". For many people, it appears to be very important to let people know the every detail of how they feel about everything from politics to their aunt's apple pie. I like to call this "SADD", Self Attention Deficit Disorder. As far as the new timeline affecting this, I guess I can see why it would bother people suffering from SADD. Who wants to look back at 2012 posts and see 20 little sad face emoticons? Or hundreds of one word posts that say things like "depressed" or "awesome!" Or " at Starbucks ".... What does that mean a year later? And I often wonder about proper etiquette here, am I obliged to respond to these erroneous posts? I have a friend ( a legitimate friend, one with whom I have physically been in the same room with on many occasions) who HATES the timeline, but also posts daily her thoughts about every thing that pops into her head. Is it possible in a years time she will regret the "I have a poppy seed caught in my teeth" post? And, am I supposed to respond with, "OMG, are you gonna be okay? Call me girl..." Let's not forget about the new ubiquitous use of "hey Girl..." by people who should NEVER use that terminology. I digress. So, bottom line here is that the timeline means nothing to me in terms of the way I use Facebook. I can see it being a problem for those of us that use Facebook as an hour by hour commentary on life, or sounding board of what other people think about them. Now I have to go and tell a Facebook friend I "like" his post about his new car so he can feel good about his choice.
