Mystery Man: Pt. 13
A/N: Sorry for all the Wednesday scenes. Promise I will sprinkle in some more Enid next chapter.

I’m woken up by loud knocking on my dorm’s door. I groan and rub my eyes. I roar out a yawn, and lazily stand up.
“I’m coming, i’m coming!” I fight back a hiss. I’m gonna have to shift soon. I’m much more cat-like than usual. I’m always like that when I need some “tiger time” as father always says.
I don’t bother getting dressed, whoever is banging on my door is rather impatient. So, I open the door in just my Superman pajama pants.
“Hello…?” I tiredly croak out, rubbing my eyes with the back of my hand.
“Ew, Y/N! Get dressed!” The one behind the knocking shouts, and I recognize the voice as Bianca. I groan, and walk over to my dresser and pull out a shirt and put it on.
“There. I’m decent. Happy?” I quirk an eyebrow at her as she steps inside my room. She carefully shuts the door behind her. “Very. Now that it’s the weekend, and you’ve been absent to every tutoring session, i’ve decided to bring your school…” Bianca pauses, stepping over to me and handing me several books that I barely manage to take without dropping any.
“To you!” She smirks proudly, and I roll my eyes. “I’m surprised you’re doing so terribly. After all, you’re hanging out with Wednesday so much, and she’s… unfortunately number one in botany.” Bianca sighs.
I sigh, walking over to my nightstand and putting the books down. “We talk about the investigation, not plants.” It’s Bianca’s turn to quirk an eyebrow at me, now. “The investigation? Seriously? Investigating… what? Your daddy issues, and a monster that isn’t real? C’mon, Y/N!” Bianca scoffs.
“You can’t seriously keep wasting your time on her. You’ve got… serious potential, dude.” Bianca sighs. “And I don’t mean potential in school, although you have that, too.” I look at her, confused.
“What do you mean?” I ask, my eyebrows furrowed and my lips parted just a tad.
“I mean you could be as popular as me. Some of the guys already worship the ground you walk on.” Bianca smirks. “Why don’t you sit at my table during dinner? Might do you some good…” Biance looks me up and down smugly, before walking towards the door.
Right as she’s about to leave, she looks at me one more time. “Read the books, Y/N. I can’t have you failing.” I groan at that, and pick up a book and start reading it.
She gives me a curt nod before stepping out, leaving me alone to study.

It’s night time, and i’m with Ajax, Xavier, Kat, Yoko, Thing, and Divina in Crackstone’s Crypt, waiting on Enid and Wednesday to get here.
It’s Wednesday’s birthday, and Thing has helped us organize a surprise celebration. I hear voices outside the door, and everyone, including me, gets into position.
The leaves inside the crypt rustle and crack underneath Wednesday as she steps further into the crypt, flashlight beaming ahead of her.
“Enid?” Wednesday calls out, her voice echoing. After not hearing a response, she draws nearer to our hiding spot. Ajax coughs, and I hit his knee. Not very hard, but I guess it still hurt him, since he winces and rubs where I hit him.
“Whoever you are, show yourself.” Wednesday demands, pointing her flashlight in our general direction. “Try anything and you’ll lose limbs.” She adds.
I give the signal, and we all jump out. “Surprise!” We all shout, and we all walk towards her. Everyone starts singing “Happy Birthday” while I stay silent.
She hates this. But… it’s the thought that counts, right?
At least I can explain to her later how much I tried stressing to everyone how much of a bad idea this was.
Enid walks in with the cake, multiple sparklers sticking out of it. Wednesday turns toward Thing as the song ends and glares.
“I should have known you were behind this.” She leans in closer to the hand. “What part of no party under the penalty of death do you not understand?” She asks.
“I thought my cake design was pretty inspired. Figured you’d hate it a little less if it was more… macabre.” I chuckle.
“The pink balloon was my little touch.” Enid adds. “Why don’t you make a wish?” Enid beams. Ugh, she’s going to be very disappointed.
Kat snorts. “Watch, she’s gonna wish for something creepy as fuck.” Kat smirks, and I glare at her. “Kathryn!” I pull out the full name, and her face pales even more than it already is, and she shuts up.
Wednesday gets distracted by writing on the wall, and walks over to it. “Wait, it’s Latin…” She examines the words, her expression focused. “Fire will rain… when I rise.” Wednesday reads. “Okay, that’s not really a wish.” Enid replies. Fire will rain… that sounds familiar.
“The first part of that phrase was burned onto Nevermore’s lawn. It can’t be a coincidence.” Wednesday states, and I snap my fingers. “That’s it! I knew it sounded familiar. I heard about that.” I smile.
Ajax looks at the cake, disappointment evident. “Wait… we’re never eating that cake, are we?” He asks sadly. Enid frowns, and Wednesday traces her fingers over the latin, and her head snaps back.
She falls to the floor, and I rush over to her sit down and place her head on my lap. “What’s wrong with her?” Ajax asks, concerned.
“She’s having a vision.” Xavier pipes up, and I scoff. “Yeah, no shit, Sherlock.” I roll my eyes. I don’t know what it is about him, but he pisses me off.

Wednesday stands over the vandalized patch of lawn, clearly deep in thought. I approach her, and look down at her with a serious expression. “What did you see?” I ask.
She doesn’t reply, she just looks up at me for a moment. I flash her and awkward smile, and she sighs. “I have a lead.” She states, and I quirk an eyebrow at her.
“Oh, yeah? Talk to me.” I smile, flashing my fangs at her. My gaze drops down to her neck, and I feel my mouth start to salivate and my fangs grow slightly.
“Eyes up here, vamp.” She huffs, and I shake my head slightly and wipe my mouth. “Yeah. Sorry.” I mumble.
“I think Xavier is the monster.” I hiss at the mention of Xavier, and she looks at me with a blank expression. Well, blank to most, I can tell she’s amused.
“Don’t like Xavier?” She asks, and I groan. “Something about him… annoys me.” I reply, annoyed just at the thought of his existence.
“You’re jealous.” She states, and I look at her, confused. I shake my head. “No! Am not!” I say a little too quickly. She arches a brow at me, as if to say “are you sure about that?”
“Okay, fine. Maybe I am.” I relent. “Anyway… back to it. You think he’s the monster? Why?” I tilt my head slightly.
She ignores my question, and just walks away. I grumble, and leave as well, not bothering to chase after her. I know her well enough to not do that.
Maybe I could go see Enid…
