Today, the stars have aligned: It is both Groundhog Day and Throwback Thursday. As both these venerable days (and related media) are about recurrence and rich tradition, we thought it was only fitting to showcase an act that has entered every year we’ve held the Contest: ENORMODOME.
This year, ENORMODOME members Jeff Lusby-Breault and Mikey Seitz played “I’m Alive” in an abandoned pool in Flagstaff, Ariz. With booming drums and a distorted octave on the electric guitar, the duo generates enough heat for six more weeks of winter.
Every year, the band has brought a different high-voltage performance to the Tiny Desk Contest. In its first entry (back in 2015), ENORMODOME played “I’m Gonna Love You” in the Flagstaff mayor’s office while the seemingly unflappable Mayor Jerry Nabours conducted the business of governing:
The next year, Lusby-Breault and Seitz brought fire performers Circus Bacchus out to an open field for a performance in front of a flaming desk:
Every year is different, yet each of these entries has a spark (and, sometimes, a full-on fire) of fun that cuts ENORMODOME’s heavy sound with levity.
