“Enough Dysphoria”
“He has given up
On his body.
He knows now
That if he accepted it,
He would not be himself.
So he has given up on this body
And he looks for a way
To sculpt himself out of his flesh.
He starts with the hair.
"Goodbye", he says,
And the razor glides across every inch of it.
He then goes to his thighs.
"Widen", he commands,
And the squats and lunges give them girth,
And while they are not ideal,
He tells himself
"Sufficient".
He takes a look at his breasts.
"Sufficient".
Not another word need be said about them.
He then examines his hands—
"Thinner"—
And they obey.
Lastly, he implores his brain,
"Cooperate",
And it agrees,
Finally,
And admits it is not what it was raised to be,
That it is not "him",
And yet, not "her",
So "they" it is.
They love themself now.”
