Leaving for Tacloban at 3am and I am not looking forward to it at all. I still have a lot of problems regarding enrollment and I'm starting to think I might not get enrolled on time again. I still need my student loan form, tuition fee, a notarized copy of my form and of course I have to brace the enrollment process with patience. I specifically remembered waiting in line for 2 days during 2nd semester of Freshman year and although the last parts of the process is sweet, the actual 'waiting in line and sitting for hours' is terribly bitter. If only UPVTC carried out the payment section by division instead of the entire school paying to one cashier, it would completely make the enrollment process for students a whole lot faster. Need I say more about the filing of loan applications and the harrowing experiences students get just because they don't have enough money? I am ashamed of entering the Office for Students Affairs because they have a tendency to bad mouth students. Plus running around the entire campus looking for those who needs to sign the said form. So basically that's it. It's not an exaggeration if Iskos and Iskas say that UP is the University of Pila, because it really is. Nakakainis talaga grabe. Ugh.

Challenge of turning quantity into quality post universal enrollement in Kenya

Many countries have struggled with the aftermath of universal school enrollement, with overcrowded classrooms and scarcity of learning resources.  

This organisation has introduced a tablet into primary schools.

Our Android app is an ed-tech initiative that uses content correlating to the national curriculum vamped up with animations, videos, songs, games and quizzes to make the learning process more interactive, interesting, fun and engaging for students.

There is also a real problem of having to progressing students through the year groups because there aren't the resources to let them repeat years, even if they maybe have to drop out for a year or two or start late - meaning that lessons may be going way over their heads.  

I have sat in secondary school classes in Kenya, taught in Engish, where the students have had insufficient language skills to take much from the science/history etc. being taught to them.  These sorts of tools let students learn at their own pace and give an opportunity to catch up.

The larger trials are just beginning, but the nature of the tool is such that there should be some really good data that comes out of it - I'm looking forward to seeing the impact.

There's also a really nice story of the kids hacking the tablets to pimp the backgrounds - is this the new source of developers!?

Enrollment 2moz

I have to travel 2 hours to get the the college where my course is 2moz just for 1hr if that of enrollment. Can't say i'm that thrilled about the whole thing but there is no other way to enroll and I want to do my 2nd year of the course.

Everything is ready, my packing is still not done for move day on sunday, oh well.I keep remebering little things that I need to take which is making me think of other things that I might need....THE LIST IS ENDLESS!!!!

Another windy day in the field and frequent showers of cold rain which was not appreciated by me or the pickers to be honest.

The upside to this day and 2moz is that I am one day closer to moving back to the 'Diff and getting back in to uni life which I have missed, yeah the summer hasn't been too bad but I want to get back to learning as sad as that sounds....I'm a geek get used to it.

So now I am officially enrolled at college! I am doing an BTEC Extended Diploma in Photography and A level French! *squeee* I can't wait! ^_^
