A different anon but please, educate yourself on communism. The things happening in Central/Eastern Europe not even 50 years ago were horrible and cruel, people died, were incarcerated, made to leave their countries because communism is so easy to exploit by bad people. I know it sounds like heaven, but it's not. My family had to live through it, it's so easy for people to exploit the system it creates and there are ALWAYS rich, power-hungry assholes who will benefit while others starve

hey anon maybe you didn’t actually read my answer to anon n.1. I never said communism was good, especially in soviet russia. What I said is that communism is not marx’s socialism, and that nazism is not comparable to communism or socialism, and both statements are true.

Communism is a form of socialist praxis. not a good one, obviously, but also not the only one. Like I said, there are in fact a lot of doubts about the fact that Stalin’s politics were actually inspired by Marx’s socialism (if you want my personal opinion, they were not).

(by the way, “rich, power-hungry assholes who benefit while other starve” is EXACTLY the burning, solid core of capitalism. which, in my opinion, confirms the fact that communism in soviet russia was fake socialism and didn’t realize Marx’s ideas of dictatoriship of the proletariat)

As for nazism, I denied that it was a form of socialism, because it was not. It used a socialist mask, made a mockery of it, just to appeal to the electorate of the time. Marx’s ideas are a respectable, legitimate economic philosophy, while nazism was just racist, antisemitic, nationalistic garbage since the very beginning.

in summary, anon n.1 accused me of being a communist just because I evidently share many of Marx’s ideas. That’s untrue. I strongly believe that Marx was right about capitalism AND that Stalin was just a vile dictator AND that nazism had literally 0 to do with actual communism/socialism (the economic philosophy, i mean, not the praxis). I believe all of this at the same time, because. you know. different nuances? especially regarding philosophy and sociology, not everything has to be black or white.

what is pathologic and why should i get into it

Pathologic is a video game franchise from a very small team of russian developers, Ice-Pick Lodge.

Pathologic 1 is a 2005 video game which is an artistic masterpiece, a buggy, ugly mess and also weird as hell. As Hbomberguy says in his famous video about Pathologic, “it’s not a bad game, it’s an amazing game! but it’s also a bad game”. Hard to define, too. It’s generally a survival with psychological horror elements, I guess. You play as one of three healers (the Bachelor, the Haruspex and the Changeling) who arrive in a strange town deep in the russian steppe shortly before a plague of unknown origin hits the reclusive community and starts killing hundreds of people. You have 12 days to find a cure and save the town (and yourself).

There is actually much more to it than that, but it would require an entire essay and in any case hbomberguy’s video is very good and entertaining, and it’s already there if you’re interested. It contains ALL the spoilers though, so if you don’t want to ruin the experience, maybe play the game itself? I’m not sure I can recommend it to you, because as I said, it’s super weird and its difficulty is notoriously punishing (at least until you understand its mechanics). Do I like it? Fuck yes! I LOVE it! Will you like it? Eehhhh... I have no idea, honestly XD

Hbomberguy (!!!SPOILERS!!!):

Pathologic 2 (2019) is... the “reimagining” of Pathologic 1. In part. Because from many points of view (story, characters, mechanics), it’s a completely new game. You don’t need to play Pathologic 1 to understand Pathologic 2, actually maybe you can enjoy it even more going in having no idea what to expect. This one I can thoroughly recommend to you. It’s another masterpiece and, unlike Pathologic 1, it’s much more understandable and beautiful to look at, while retaining its deep themes, its weird charm and its punishing difficulty (but if it becomes too much for you, you can also mess around with the difficulty level, which is good).

Unfortunately Ice-Pick Lodge didn’t have enough money to make all three playthrough like in Pathologic 1, so for now we only have the Haruspex playthough AND a wonderful DLC titled “The Marble Nest” in which you play one day as the Bachelor. They haven’t abandoned the project though, and they plan to produce the Bachelor complete playthough as soon as they obtain the budget to do it! What we can do to help them is to keep supporting their team! They have a very unique vision in the depressingly boring video game landscape, and they really deserve all our attention! :)

Not an anon. Spoiler Alert, USSR was never a communist state. It was a socialist state, while communism was a long-term to be achieved. Secondly, I was born in USSR and lived there. As well as my parents. And if you ask them, and other people over 50 in Russia, A LOT of people would say they’d want USSR back. Why? Good salaries for teachers, scientists, factory workers, doctors, military personnel (these are ones I personally know). Free good heathcare, schools, kindergardens and unis. 1/2

2/2 So please, enough with that ‘oooh, bad communism’ boogie concept. Vast majority of people in USSR felt no issue with stare propaganda, and the repressions were mostly Stalin’s era legacy, and even those are greatly exaggerated. And Stalin was in power for 29 years, while USSR had a 70 year history. It’s fine to share your views, anon, but please don’t assume yours are one and only truth. Cause I got mine which 100% different from yours and is as real as yours.

I do think it’s possible to imagine a society built on socialist ideals while at the same time avoid repressions and state propaganda. It doesn’t have to be an “all or nothing” kind of choice

I think i've been following you since just before ME3 came out. I remembered you were the first tumblr i saw posting screenshots and reactions. I dont know what made me think of it but it was a nice memory of being so excited for a game.

bioware disappointed me a few times in the years since ME3 (and I’m one of the weird aliens who actually love ME3!), but I’m always excited for a new game, especially if it’s DA or ME related! on one hand it’s absolutely true that tumblr is a semi-abandoned social network, I mean in 2013 Yahoo paid 1.1 billion to acquire it and in 2019 Automattic/Wordpress bought it for less than 3 million?? in just a few years its value plummeted steeply due to a series of bewildering choices on the advertising side of things, AND of course the strict content policy introduced since December 2018 which drove away like 30% of its user traffic

but on the other hand that’s... part the charm and uniqueness of tumblr. you can’t actually monetize it, or at least you can’t do it in an efficient way. there are some accounts literally dedicated to making fun of tumblr’s most pathetic&absurd attempts at advertising. it’s... kind of a pirate ship, where its user base is basically left to its own devices, while on other more popular social networks like facebook, instagram and youtube, you constantly have the very distinct feeling that you are actually just a product and your value is limited to how much you contribute to keep the users’ eyeballs glued on the ads. in fact, as soon as you slow down the production of content, the algorithm drops you like a stone in the water (personal experience here). btw this mechanism is constantly exploited by content factories that often feed young people false, even dangerous informations... not to mention the nazis recruiters???

so if you want a more real experience in your fandom of choice, I absolutely recommend you to make an account on tumblr and start following people who like the same thing. and if someone on your dashboard is too annoying, just unfollow them and follow someone else. there are a lot of weirdos here, but also a lot of awesome people&artists and I personally wouldn’t go anywhere else for the content I actually care for😄
