Future Faces // Enter Life (feat. Marc Dwyer - Buzz Kull)
Future Faces // E U P H O R I A
I just finished reading ALIENS, an essay collection by Jim Al-Khalili about the background and science of extraterrestrial life. I liked it a lot, although some of the essays were more engaging than others. I especially liked the parts that surveyed humans’ approach to aliens in sci fi and culture.
Anyway, I decided rather than writing up a real review, I’d make use of the various snaps I sent people while reading it. So here, have a bunch of goofy impressions this book made on me. Maybe it will help you decide if it’s the book for you!
P.S. the CHON stuff is referencing a science museum exhibit from me and my siblings’ childhood: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=we0vBoQfSjQ

Growing up in the DC area granted me easy access to the Smithsonian's free museums. I never had to pay for a museum until I moved to Boston for grad school: "You mean, I have to PAY for CULTURE???"
Anyway, this is Faith Hubley's "Enter Life" from 1981, one of my favorite exhibits at the Natural History Museum growing up. Sadly, the exhibit is no longer there, so future unruly scientists like me can't give their parents the slip, hide in the back corner of the theater seats, watch the video a million times, and sing "CHON-CH-CH-CHON-CHON!" repeatedly in the car on the way home.
Michael Stone on the Question, How Do I Enter My Life?
"I phrased the questions as: How do I truly enter the practice? Over time I realized I was really asking: How do I fully enter my life?
This question is still the core motivation in my life. No practice is the truth. The practices are only vehicles that help us wake up. So how can I truly and deeply enter my life and by extension, the interdependent life of all things."
