I agree that Magical Girl Raising Project is just a lazy Madoka rip-off, but I love how one of the magical girls is a boy when out of costume. I wish that this had been discussed more though
That part does sound potentially interesting if handled correctly, though I had absolutely zero faith in the show to do anything worthwhile with it,and it sounds like I was right to have that lack of faith from what I’ve read.
I mean even if the show did have an arc seriously exploring gender and sex change and all that, this isn’t really the show I’d want to see that done in, anyway.
Like for instance, I’d love to see a show with a trans magical girl who was handled respectfully! I wouldn’t want her to have to debut in a show about magical girls killing each other for the pleasure of the cis male target demographic though, for obvious reasons. Let it happen in an optimistic and thoughtful show, please.
