Entity Overview: Anapharas, Queen of Hellhounds
Overview
Type: Demon (hellhound)
Anapharas is a old and powerful hellhound, where most hellhounds are found as Lackeys to other demons, Anapharas is the alpha bitch of her pack. Among them not only other hellhounds who submitted to her but also her own children.
Anapharas has mated many times, including with the great and mighty cerberus. Among her youngest children is Stygia, the cerberus-hellhound puppy claimed as a consort by Brooklyn Daniels.
History
Anapharas is old, for eons she served greater demons and conjurers who called upon her. Where others were destroyed or bound, she thrived, gaining strength, biding her time.
When her master made a mistake in the pact, she took the opportunity to strike him down and devour his demonic essence, becoming a lesser prince of the demonic hordes by doing so. Now she sees herself as the mighty queen of hellhounds.
Few summoners dare call upon her nowadays except for the foolish and the ambitious, most end as little more than ashes. A few gain her interest and while she herself would not demean herself to serve another anymore, she often offers the aid of her children and subordinates.
Powers and Behavior
Anapharas has all the abilities of a normal hellhound, such as their speed and strength, a jaw mightier than a crocodile and the ability to burn hot as coals. However where most hellhounds at the size of medium to large dogs, Anapharas herself has grown to be as massive and powerful as a bear.
Her howls can paralyze those who hear it with terror and she can magically compel other hellhounds to submit to her.
Bans: Anapharas will never show mercy to a prey. She will not accept anyone as her master.
Summoning
For those who dare call upon her, they may do so with a simple if expensive ritual.
Those wanting an audience with Anapharas must be careful to erect the correct ward for she will invariably lash out at whoever is insolent enough to do so.
Materials: A conjuration circle (properly warded) A dog skull engraved in gold, a brazier, coals, a source of fire, a piece of scroll, a few drops of blood, a live animal of decent size (preferably a ewe or calf.)
Ritual: In front of a prepared conjuration circle, the practitioner should light a brazier with the coals (wood or other fire source will not do) and once the flame roars they should put down the engraved skull and anoint it with blood.
The conjurer must then recite the proper summoning chants using Anapharas’ secret names to compel her to manifest.
Once she has appeared, Anapharas will be furious, the practitioner must offer the animal, slitting its throat right then and there and pushing it past the ward. If she accept the offering, the practitioner will have whatever time it takes her to devour the carcass to make their offer.
Once she has eaten she will not listen to the practitioner and will demand to be released immediately or begin raging. Anapharas is powerful and if given the chance she will easily break through all but the most powerful wards.
If she finds the proposal interesting she may agree. Negotiation and long contracts are not in her nature and will bore (and anger her)
Why summon Anapharas?
Although a difficult summon, Anapharas can provide some valuable rewards to one who summon her. Among them the service of hellhounds. As her hounds are often employed by others, they naturally come to learn of a great many things which they report to their Alpha, making Anapharas a great source of information, although she cares little for details and pedantic subjects.
