AMCONYC FASHION WEEK – THE SHOWS

With all the changes happening in the world of New York fashion, AMCONYC is making their move and securing their spot on the fashion map. Three days of 7 fully produced runway shows started on September 11th and ended on the 13th just a few streets away from the main stages. Spring/Summer 2016 collections were shown on our runways and AMCONYC brought several established, underground brands into the limelight who either introduced a new collection or showcased their brand for the first time during New York Fashion Week.

Day 1

Kicking off day 1 of AMCONYC Fashion Week was Ivory Couture Clothing who is based in Los Angeles. Designer and owner, Bella Ivory-Sheckles, founded the brand in 2013 which was birthed out of her passion for very feminine vintage clothing, an immense admiration of historic french fashion houses. Ivory Couture Clothing was seen on CNN and was covered by HEED Magazine after showcasing with us this season. Special guests in attendance for this young designer were VHI Basketball Wives star Sundy Carter, Eric Burns (EBurns) and HEED Magazine’s Bruce and Glen.

Next on our fashion calendar was South African designer, Phumie, who created the line BlackPhumelele and not only introduced her line to the New York market, but took a huge risk and launched this hand crafted collection for the first time during NYFW. The show was a tremendous success and was attended by guests such as Josh McBride from The Today’s Show, Charell Star and NY Fashion Examiner writer, Jacqueline Ryan.

Day 2

UNKNOWN NY opened up day two with a nontraditional runway show that led into a standing presentation orchestrated with drum beats by Curt Wright, drummer to Travis Barker. The models included Deion Smith, David Allen, and Anthony Flora. Special guests included Brooklyn singer Bridget Kelly, Eliezer Infante, Elizabeth Pipko and more.

Wear You Label is a Canadian based brand that showcased in New York for the first time during AMCONYC Fashion Week. WYL sparked as a small idea: clothing to create conversations about mental health. Today, WYL unites tens of thousands of people in a movement to end the stigma and they are giving back along the way. The models were none other than what they call ROLE models, people who have overcome mental illness. Jennifer Marshall, performed a monologue, throughout the presentation and actress Sarah Fisher walked for the label in an effort to gain awareness for their cause. Rebekah Marine sat front row.

Day 3

The final day of fashion week is upon us and with four successful shows down, there are just three more to go! First up was a brand called Ollari. Founder and Designer Meagan Ollari is no stranger to NYFW. She debuted her first collection in 2014. This season, Ollari decided to showcase at AMCONYC Fashion Week and released her much anticipated collection called“Bollywood Babydoll”. The outfits emulated whimsical silhouettes paired with fearless, feminine prints. The collection was inspired by the designer’s recent trip to India.

The middle show on day three was children’s line, Bound By The Crown designed by 9 year old genius Isabella Barrett. Co Founder and Game of Crown star, Susanna Paliotta says, ” This year, with the help of AMCONYC, Bound by the Crown will be setting a new precedence to what a children’s runway show should be!” Celebrity guests included Susan Doneson.

Last but certainly not least were designs by Jovan O’Connor who is no stranger to the press or media. Having studied in Italy, Ms. O’Connor was commissioned to design a gown for Philly’s own Patti LaBelle which established her as an independent custom designer. The Spring/Summer 2016 Collection showcased on Sept 13m 2015 proved her knowledge of construction, color selection and the art of fashion. The collection was a crowd favorite and models including Brooke Slade and Samara Martins made these designs come to life.

For the Holiday 2014 season, the UNKNOWN collection by Entree LS swanks an array of extended t-shirts, flannels, along with custom made crew necks, hoodies, jackets, joggers, boonie hats and more. Featured in this holiday season’s official lookbook is supermodel, Tyson Beckford.

This release sees a number of premium outerwear pieces. Welcomed into the fold, is the UNKNOWN Black Parka. Made with wax denim and lined with Sherpa, this parka also includes an oversized collar with a wired brim.

The UNKNOWN Black Bomber Jacket is designed with a nylon shell. The Velcro loop patches, double- sided zippers amass an edge to the average bomber jacket.

The flannels are featured in two colorways, both red and black; Lined with a mandarin collar, side zippers, and a hidden pocket on the inside, the fishtail finish is what separates the UNKNOWN Flannel from others.

Lastly, highlighted by quilted back yoke, the UNKNOWN Biker Joggers include a ruffled leather kneecap with matte black zippers.

A motivating factor of the UNKNOWN collection was to bridge the gap between streetwear and high fashion retailed at a moderate price. Far removed from the mundaneness of today’s culture, UNKNOWN Holiday 14 introduces bold detailing and laser sharp cutting, building off the strong characteristics of its premier UNKNOWN collection. The label itself was carefully thought out to gear more attention to the intricate designs of the apparel, rather than the name of the designer/brand.
