addison and uri are taking a bath together in the south proc condo they stay in, talking about their future- moving to one of the big houses in south proc, because their condo isnt big enough for kids- when uri brings up marnie, if marnie will know that addy’s her dad
addison says no, not until shes older, and they start talking about the hyanthis, and addy mentions how livi and marnie will need another guardian because its harder to hide a baby than a teen/adult and if the vigilian revolution takes off like addys hoping and praying it will he wont have time to take care of the hyanthis
uris mind is racing because- as much as he wants the future of family and peace that they were just talking about, god knows there is no way it could happen, not with the civil war and the planned revolution, and the thing addison is avoiding vehemently: the likely death at the hands of claragrey- he could be the new guardian
olivia likes uri, more than most people do, and uri knows everything about the hyanthis and the gem and the omni and hes already proven himself to be trustworthy and maybe this can be his backup plan
(not his backup plan for if addy dies, because if that happens he will continue to work at the palace, but his backup plan for if everything truly does go to shit)
he doesnt tell addy because they seems like a betrayal but he does start planning. uri’s in shape- probably more than addison-, and knows basic self defense, but he doesnt know how to be a bodyguard. so he starts getting lessons/advice/training from some of the palace bgs whenever he and addy are in cent proc, especially vee’s bg natalia.
he never tells anyone why hes doing it and while royce&addy dont really notice, vee does and confronts uri about it. uri doesnt tell her much but its clear to vee: whatevers going on with the trust has changed things and its very likely uriah proaxt wont be returning to the palace
i was gonna write more to this but im tired so fuck it
claragrey's drunk, addison's oblivious, and everyone else hates proaxt
"Cecents tonight at eight!"
Uriah Proaxt couldn’t help but groan loudly as he looked up at where Claragrey was shouting from the second floor walkway. She’s grinning widely, with me beside her doing the same, and if Uri wasn’t trying to singularly uphold any sense of professionalism the Brain Trust had, he would’ve shouted back something a lot less positive.
"You do not have to go if you hate it that much." Undel had already packed up his bag, microscope put away, and Uri wondered why everyone seemed so eager to be out of the Tory.
"You do not like her. You go." Uri refused to put away his things until the work day was officially over, both because he wanted to actually get things done and because he fully counted on Addison walking out of his office as soon as Uri was slacking off.
Undel was already fixing his hair in the mirror, as if prepping for the night out that wouldn’t be starting for two and a half hours. "Addison always goes, and he can not see. It is very easy to use a blind person’s credit account without them noticing. Especially if their accountant is a computer."
Uri looked up in amusement which, once he realized Undel wasn’t joking, turned to horror. "That is the worst thing I have ever heard you say." When Undel didn’t respond, he continued. "Also, I am Doctor Zacheriah’s accountant, not Jordan."
Undel seemed satisfied with his hair, or more likely it just reached a time where he could leave his workspace without seeming like he was completely slacking off. "I would never call Jori a computer." He left, Uri glaring after him.
"Proaxt! You coming to Cecents yeah?"
Claragrey had two settings, extremely serious and extremely silly, and Uri couldn’t decide which made him more uncomfortable. Knowing that ignoring her would just make her heckle him more, he allowed himself to shout back. "Doctor Holo, work is not over!"
"Never is for you, is it?" Uri’s fists clenched when he saw me whisper something in Claragrey’s ear that made her laugh. "Hope to see you there baby!"
Uri was already back to typing something into his Reader, something business related that in all honesty Kammy or Addison should have been doing. He noticed that he seemed to be doing more of that and less Oxymorology. He wondered if he would be brave enough to approach Addison about it.
Thirty minutes later, when the bell tower reached it’s sixth ring, Uri felt a hand on his back and looked up to realize he and Addison were the only people left in the Tory. "What the hell was wrong with everyone today?"
Addison laughed and started running a hand through Uri’s straightened hair, which Uri had to admit was getting pretty long. "It’s in the air. People want to be going out and having fun today. Not locked up in the Tory."
"I do not want to be going out today." Even as he said it, Uri knew it wasn’t true. "Not with them anyway." More accurate.
Addison was still smiling leisurely, headset on a low setting. "More fun with you there."
"For who, Addy? Because I do not have fun." And the rest of the Trust hates me.
"For me, of course." Uri scoffed but didn’t say anything, enjoying the feeling of Addison’s fingers playing with his hair. "Come on, baby. I’ll bribe you."
Baby. The pet name was one that Uri associated with Claragrey, even though Addison had been using it long before she was in the picture. From either of them, it was an indication of drunkenness. Not for the first time, Uri wondered how many times a week Addison would hole up in his office to drink. "Oh yeah?"
"Of course. It wouldn’t be an outing with the Trust unless I had to buy you something to get you to go." Addison’s tone was teasing, but it still bothered Uri. The annoyance, as it usually did, spurred bravery.
"Can we tell them tonight?"
The fingers in his hair halted immediately, and Uri regretted asking just as quickly. "Is that- you want that?"
Of course, you idiot. "No. Forget it."
"I am going to call a vike." Addison was gone suddenly, leaving Uri staring at a workstation filled with electronics. He grabbed his personal ecod and the palace ecod, uncharacteristically leaving the rest to deal with in the morning.
Addison had somehow already made it outside, and Uri trailed slowly after him. A vike pulled up by the time he was down the stairs, and he went to help Addison into passenger seat. Essentially having him cornered in the vike, Uri grabbed his hand. "Forget it, Addison."
Addison looked nervous, but squeezed Uri’s hand and smiled like he had been before. "Forgotten."
i feel like all i ever write anymore is about uri during the perfect coma but like
uri during the perfect coma is the best
Uriah Proaxt, sick and tired of watching Addison and Claragrey lying next to each other motionless, found himself in Addison’s chapel. He wasn’t surprised to find it altered like Claragrey had said before passing out. The change, and the fact that it had happened while Uri was struggling to keep the Perfects alive, made him sick. The stained glass at the head of the chapel, an exquisite manger scene, had been changed. The mother and father now had white skin and red hair, hers long and messy, his short and curly. If that hadn’t been enough of a statement- which to Uri, it was more than enough to make it clear what the Savers were saying- the figures’ robes had changed color as well. The man’s bright green, and the woman’s dark blue.
"Well. That is pretty weird." Undel’s voice rang out from the back of the chapel, and Uri found himself thankful it wasn’t me or Kammy. Thankful it wasn’t someone who loved Claragrey.
"I was already incarcerated when she got pregnant, Undel. Whatever she did-"
"You did not know," Undel was beside him almost immediately, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Proaxt, it was pretty obvious in the operating room that this is as big a surprise to you as it is us."
Relieved that Undel seemed to be on his side, he sat down in the front row of the pew. "You see this?" He gestured to the stained glass.
"Yeah, man, I see it. You and Claragrey as Joseph and Mary." In the back of his mind Uri was surprised that Undel knew their names.
He picked up the nearest heavy object, one of Addison’s many bibles, and threw it as hard as he could. The loud shattering at the glass made Undel flinch. "She can’t have my child without my knowledge and then go into a coma."
Undel stood, staring at the shattered glass like he was impressed. "She just did, Uriah. And you just used a contraction."
The information didn’t have the effect on Uri it would in a more usual situation. He had other things to be concerned about.
Undel started to leave, and he still seemed far too calm to suit the situation. "You better clean this up."
Uri was surprised that no one else came in, either to look for him or investigate the noise. He thought back to when he and Claragrey met in the chapel to talk about Charles. "You’re not a likable person, Uri." "It’ll be hard for you, with the way you are." "We’re a lot alike, you know." He wanted to break something else.
Never while in a relationship with Addison, before or after finding out Claragrey’s feelings for him and admitting his feelings for her, did Uri ever consider leaving him for her. He would, occasionally, acknowledge that he and Addison might break up and dating Claragrey was something that Uri was interested in, but never- especially in the twelve months where they were engaged and Uri was alone on Vigilia- did Uri consider cheating on Addison with his own soulmate.
Uri had done infidelity, and it nearly costed him his and Charles’s life. He had no interest in ever trying it again.
All of that aside, even if the baby had been late, there was no way Claragrey could’ve been pregnant before March. Uri had been placed under arrest in February. He had been visited by Claragrey twice while being held in the basement, and both times were short and similar to when he had been visited by Kammy- all about official Trust business that Addison hadn’t wanted to deal with.
And yet, he found himself in the situation where Claragrey Holo, criminal mastermind and most intelligent, manipulative person Uri had ever met, was in a coma after giving birth to a healthy little boy that couldn’t be anyone’s child but Uri’s.
He thought about how he had felt exactly a year ago. He thought about the engagement ring that now took residence with the rest of the things Addison confiscated from Fate Savers. He thought about about sitting in Addison’s office and having Yan defer to him, and how every time Yan saw him now he looked afraid and ashamed, making it clear to Uri who had told Addison that Uri was a Saver. He thought about how it had only a little over two months until the day of the wedding, only two months until he wouldn’t just be the assistant that Addison was sleeping with, but Addison’s husband.
Everything had gone so wrong so quickly.
Someone knocked at the chapel door, and Uri didn’t make any move to welcome them in. No one came in, and Uri was thankful. The only person he wanted to talk to wouldn’t be able to respond.
Uri hadn’t prayed in a very long time, and he hadn’t been Catholic when he was religious, but sitting in a chapel he just desecrated, and with the knowledge that the two people on the planet who knew him best were not only a coma but likely hated and feared him, and he was the only parent to a child he had never counted on having, and he was once again the de facto leader of the organization that ruined his life, he decided it wouldn’t be a bad idea to try.
I am not being negative when I say we can not do this. I am stating what the entire Trust pardoning you is thinking. You are right, I would die for free will. But I will not die for nothing. And in twenty years when we are all dead, no one will be fighting the Savers anymore, because no one will know about them. And we all will have died for nothing. So if we are going to do this, we have to do this right. Because I do not want any of us to die for nothing.
The GenGens pairs have matching rings that they wear on their left ring fingers. Claragrey asks Yan about his and learns enough about it to be curious. Much later, she and Royce are looking through a box of Royce's dead little sister's things, and Claragrey sees a ring that matches Yan's. This is when Claragrey finds out that not only was Royce born in the Confederation, but his sister Monaghan was the last of the missing GenGens. Not much time after that, she finds out that Mona isn't actually dead.
cool thing about this scene is i was thinking about egverse when i wrote it but it could very easily be in canon
its also a scene ive had on my mind for a while, and is honestly one of the first scenes where i started considering a addison/uri relationship, ironically enough
whats that sixx am song with the lyrics "self inflicted murder" that used to be a yan song but im really feeling it for uri during power surge
"Yes."
Later, once he had time to think about it, Uri realized Addison saying that word broke his heart. But in the moment all he could feel was anger, a cold and blinding fury that spurred him into action.
Uri rose from the bed quickly, and Addison pulling out his gun in reflex was exactly what he had expected. He briefly remembered the first time he had ever had a gun pointed at him, when he was fourteen and his mother had caught him and Chaz in the alley between the chapel and the pharmacy. He had felt guilty for years afterwards, less for kissing a boy and more for letting them get so reckless that they had been put in danger.
"Okay." He felt no guilt as he stood in front of Addison and softly touched the gun in his hand.
"Uri…" The way his name was said sounded like a warning. Uri covered Addison’s hand with his own, noticing how tensely he was holding the weapon. He wondered who was watching as he brought the gun up to his own temple slowly.
"Uri?" Addison was louder, and his tone was more questioning than warning.
Uri breathed out slowly, and he thought nonsensically of how close his face- his mouth- was to Addison’s. His tone was even and his hand didn’t shake over Addison’s. "If you really think I am a Saver, you should have no qualms shooting me in the head. I will just come back in a few hours, and you will be able to prove my crimes and do away with me as you please."
Having had been staring at the blue expanse of Addison’s eyes for the entirety of his speech Uri startled when he closed his eyes, making them both tighten their grip on the gun.
The silence was long and awkward and it annoyed Uri that he wouldn’t respond. "Say something."
"I’m not gonna shoot you point blank, Proaxt." The revert back to a last name basis angered Uri more than the silence had, and he pressed the barrel of the gun harder into his temple.
"Do you think I am a Saver or not?"
"I do."
"You are sure?"
"Yeah." There was no hesitation though Addison’s tone had turned tearful. "I’m sure. B-but Proaxt, this is- this is absurd."
Uri wasn’t surprised that Addison was crying, but it still fascinated him to watch the tears run down his face. "Prove you are right."
"I am right," Addison said, but it was obvious he understood the pointlessness of his statement and he then sighed.
Uri felt the breath on his lips and he was alarmed by how exhilarated he felt, making Addison Zacheriah put a gun to his head when he believed, truly believed there was no way he would pull the trigger.
Addison sighed again, and this time it was more resigned and Uri smirked slightly, eager to hear the apology he had wanted more than anything, even getting out of incarceration. More than proving his innocence he wanted to hear the admission of fault from Addison- 'I’m sorry, Uri, you were right, and I was wrong.'
A minutely quiet click deafened Uri’s thoughts, and he realized he was wrong, desperately wrong, and he would never be getting that admission.
His mind was peacefully blank but then, five seconds too late to of saved his life, he jerked away from Addison with a shout. He tripped backwards over something- the tub, or a stool, or something- falling and hitting the back of his head on the floor. The pain brought him some clarity and he tried to slow his breathing as he realized with relief and confusion that he was still alive. The gun was unloaded, his brain supplied but it didn’t help calm him at all.
Suddenly he was standing again and holding what had tripped him- it was the footstool, making Uri wondered briefly what the hell kind of jail cell had footstools-, and if the anger he felt earlier was icy this was flaming, and he wasn’t thinking of anything but the quiet click of the dry shot as he took four quick steps to Addison- who looked as confused as Uri felt, holding the gun loosely in one hand and touching his headset with other- and hit him as hard as he could with the stool.
Addison gave a strangled shout as he hit the ground and Uri grabbed the gun from his hand, and went to it to hit him again, over the head in a way that he knew from dreadful experience would leave him unconscious.
Before he could a shot rang out in the room.
A warning shot, Uri realized with relief, as he turned to see Kangee standing at the doorway looking with concern at Addison before turning her gaze- and her gun- at Uri. "Uri, get on your knees and slide me the gun. Then put your hands above your head and make no sudden movements." Her voice was soft and rather lovely, calming Uri down enough to realize that he wasn’t going to be able to redeem himself he unless he started cooperating immediately.
He nodded quickly and did as she said, regretting this entire operation despite not fully understanding what had happened during it. He looked to Addison for answers- they had known of his plan and had an unloaded gun just to mess with him?- as he picked up the gun that originally belonged to him.
Addison touched his head, which was bleeding, before looking towards Kangee. "Thank you. Is that loaded?" She nodded and Addison took it from her without a word, giving her the unloaded one. "Find out why this one wasn’t. Leave us. Come back with a body bag."
It took a few seconds for Uri to comprehend what that meant, and once he had Kangee was gone and Addison was standing in front of him. "You did not know the gun was not loaded." Uri hated how his voice cracked, how badly he was shaking.
"Shut up!"
Uri flinched, and looked towards the ground when he once again had a gun pointed at him. He felt sick as he finally started to cry, and wondered how he could ever be so stupid.
Addison sounded manic, less like himself and more like the man Uri had looked up to as a child. "Now, what the hell were you planning?"
Uri sobbed, and it was all he could do not to collapse. "I thought you would not shoot me!" His voice was feeble as he struggled to stay on his knees.
"You are a Fate Saver! Of course I would-" Addison stopped mid sentence when the door opens with a slam and at Addison’s gasp, Uri made himself look up.
He was too frazzled to be too shocked at Royce Buckingham walking in, Kangee behind him looking conflicted.
Addison advanced towards Royce but kept his gun on Uri. "Man, what are you doing here?" He sounded almost shamed.
Royce replied heatedly but Uri could barely understand it, finally unable to stay on his knees and landing on the floor. As he faded into unconsciousness, or maybe death, all he could think was that he didn’t remember ever having a headache this bad.
